More importantly, I wanted to highlight the real cause of digital harms. It is neither the kids, nor the screens. It is the Big Tech...

As a digital idiot who spent his life behind a screen, I wanted to share another perspective. The perspective of a researcher who choose this career to improve the digital world in which I grew up and in which I still live. A digital world that shaped the researcher I am.

This article does not talk about my research but about WHY I am doing research in computer science. Recently, political debates kept pointing at digital technologies as the cause of all our youth-related problems. The biggest harm being how "screens" make younger generations "digital idiots."

I must admit that I am a bit tired of researchers condemning its usage by default (obviously, not you 😉). Providing ethical guidelines would be more helpful and would avoid the grey area we are in. I know so many students using it without any transparency or disclosure to avoid criticism

My practices avoid hallucinations because I provide all the content and only ask the LLM to check grammar and flow. I know that the crypto community can be suspicious about it but I systematically disclose this usage (even if it is not expected with Grammarly and I do not do anything different)

Somehow, LLMs simply replaced Grammarly in my workflow. Before LLMs, I was using Grammaly premium to check everything (Grammarly already had reformulation suggestions) When using LLMs in my writing, I stick to one principle: I always provide a complete draft and I work paragraph per paragraph

PhD student in applied crypto here. I do use LLMs in my workflow to polish grammar and writing flow. What you are saying really resonates with my experience as I am a non-native English speaker. It really helps me have a better flow, especially in my introduction to catch the readers attention
