We’ve put everything into Skala. If I’m being honest, it’s been a huge mental challenge to work on something this big, for this long. Any support you can offer is appreciated.

Very busy doing all the things today.

I’m still using SCSS, mostly for imports and building to a single compact file. Definitely agree that vanilla CSS does all the other good things I care about.

I look forward to hearing about other indie devs and their apps in upcoming articles. I really mean that — it’s getting harder and harder to find the smaller gems in a sea of giant companies and slop.

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 10/09/2026

His talk was impactful enough that I took photos, and impactful enough that I still remember it today. The advice is still good and relevant.

In 2013, @lexfri.xyz gave a talk at the One More Thing conference, with advice on how indie developers and companies should contact journalists and news sites. I learned a lot, and started following his advice immediately.

A less glamorous view of the set. Time to get the next one happening.

Slowly getting better at making videos. This one took a lot of velcro and tripods to get the top down view working.

Menu bar, tab bar, navigation bar, and… toolbar with no space?! I’m sure it’s intentional, but why?

🔥 New blog post: Dark mode toggles that expose three states (system, light, dark) seem like the best option. Until you think about user goals, that is. Before rushing to disagree, hear me out. lea.verou.me/blog/2026/da... PS: As a data point, @jakearchibald.com was converted after reading this 😅

Dark mode toggles: two states are enough • Lea Verou

Yes, the underlying model must have three states, but one is always irrelevant to the actual user goal. Users do not seek out solutions to problems they don’t currently have. A lot of the hate towards...

Buckets And Decay

BBD and PT2399 delay, chorus, and flanger plugin.

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 07/08/2026

I had an idea to try and isolate the chips themselves, use machine learning to replicate the degradation, then pair it with a transparent digital delay. This separates the sound of the chip from the delay, meaning we can then modulate the delay time.

110

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 07/08/2026

PT2399 chips are newer and less famous. They were initially used in Karaoke machines and are now used in many guitar pedals. Like BBDs, they kind of suck and degrade the audio being passed through them. But also like BBDs, they sound great.

100

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 07/08/2026

BBD chips are a form of analogue delay that uses hundreds of capacitors, passing the signal from one capacitor to the next. They do a terrible job preserving the original sound, and the result is dark, gritty, and noisy. But, it sounds cool. Pristine digital delays are no fun in comparison.

100

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 07/08/2026

Kurt Cobain used a small clone on lots of songs. The Roland Dimension D and the chorus on Juno synths are the sound of the 80s.

110

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 07/08/2026

Famous uses: The Edge used a Memory Man delay on Where the Streets Have No Name and lots of other U2 songs. Andy Summers used a Electric Mistress on Walking on the Moon and other Police songs. It was such an important part of the sound that the reissue pedal is now called “Walking on the Moon”.

110

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 07/08/2026

I’ve been obsessed for years with audio effects based on BBD (bucket brigade device) chips and PT2399 chips. I remember the moment when I realised a lot of the effects I love sound how they do because of a $5 chip they all share in common.

210

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 30/07/2026

Busy drawing BBD and PT2399 chips for the next plugin.

I don’t think Apple’s testing colour management well these days. Display P3 CSS colours in Safari on iOS 26 are also broken, and being clamped to sRGB. This does seem to be fixed in iOS 27.

110

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 18/07/2026

It sucks if you plan to export from Icon Composer for use on websites or other places. The icons do look correct in built apps though.

110

Marc Edwards @marc.bjango.com · 18/07/2026

If you’re creating Display P3 app icons in Icon Composer, QuickLook previews (FB23465822) and exporting (FB23826296) both look desaturated. It seems like colours are being clamped to sRGB. Tested in macOS 26, macOS 27, Icon Composer 1, and Icon Composer 2.
