If we try to crush our foes primarily via economic policy, we will make all of us poorer. Tax the hell out of them, enforce rulebreaking, yes to all of that. But we will not be better off with an economy that it makes it impossible for anyone to get rich in the first place.

Great! (I mean I have no strong opinion on stock buybacks vs. dividends, but sure) Again, nothing in there is incompatible with Bidenomics?

If you're talking about something like wealth taxes, I don't think that's economic policy or incompatible with Bidenomics. If you're not...what are you talking about?

I don't think the question of what we should do about people with huge fortunes is particularly an economic one

I've always been for dumping it, but there was a time when it was worth considering the real tradeoffs of also allowing Republican legislatures to pass majority legislation, and now the Republican party doesn't give a shit about the legislative branch at all

What if we kept having 4 good years?

Believing that we could simply unwind prices is not a belief only or even primarily held by progressives. The direct payments were evidence in favor of socialism

I doubt arguing for a return to Bidenomics is going to be a winner, the argument should be for low unemployment, growing wages, and undoing Trump's tariffs.

You were duped into believing things like "wages for most of us weren't matching" or that there were more people struggling than before. Which, again, MAGA literally stands for how things used to be better before.

marble47.bsky.social @marble47.bsky.social · 19h
Nah, we can remember people being duped by right-wing propaganda about the economy then, too.

Well also good and bad politics are not a binary and a big part of the problem is the assholes acting like they are. Being pro-LGBTQ can attract a much larger coalition than "we must destroy McDonald's"

"Average person is in a spin cycle" is a perhaps unintentionally accurate description

Yeah I do not intend this to be negative to Samantha at all, but we have tried other systems and my players have always preferred 5e, largely because it is the wargame with some roleplaying stapled on they are used to. And now our group has its first kid, and we *will* be done by 9 tonight

Some Democrats are. Like sorry your state's voters are so dumb that that's not a winning platform. I like Montana otherwise, pretty place!

Lol yes a one time tax is not ongoing funding, but that's not what the paper is about

The NYC pied a terre tax is a fun exception but probably not replicable in many places

I don't know how true it is that they'll all flee to Texas, but surely it would matter for it being an ongoing funding mechanism?

You see it with sports all the time and it makes it easier to see in politics. Its just not always true that the team that wanted it more wins, and certainly not the only thing that matters

I don't know if AI discussion causes people to turn into massive assholes, but the correlation seems pretty clear

Its hard because its always been some of both. I greatly value my college education and experience independent of the indirect way its benefitted my career, and I also absolutely half-assed some assignments and classes.

If the derivative property is good enough we even call it an homage instead of a rip-off!
030
marble47.bsky.social @marble47.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Right, The problem is what happens if those hundred thousand people or AI produces a work that is clearly derivative but *is* distinguishable. All sorts of books and movies are very clearly Media Property with the serial numbers filed off, and as long as the filing is done well enough its OK

Surely by those terms, this LISEP metric also would not reflect the magnitude of the problems?

I think the Stancil escalation would be to point out that most of America is rich and has the disposable time and income to meal plan

Dunno if it needs to be AI, but an alert about the irregular cheese sale at our grocery store would be a boon (and we also try for meal planning and shopping every weekend)

That job paid poorly and was a pretty bad option especially once I wasn't in school anymore, but I wasn't secretly unemployed and that job not existing would be worse not better
010
marble47.bsky.social @marble47.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Probably true? Its just not enough people to truly change the big macro picture, and people taking a low-paying job while they look for something better isn't new either, like I did call center work for a couple years during and past my senior year of college

Eh I think housing prices started increasing before the broader economy had fully recovered from the great recession is accurate. (But not that the economy is or should be perceived as just housing prices)
