#booksky The genuine reaction when @rwmeadors.bsky.social told me that @hopeengel.com ‘s favorite character in #TheMajorArcana is my boy, Michael Ray “T-Mikey” Collins:
The text message exchange between myself (Jason Marbach) and my coauthor, R.W. Meadors, when he told me another author friend of ours (Hope Engel) has a character I created and love dearly as her favorite character, when I never expected anyone but me to care about him. Exchange reads as follows:

Me: No way

R.W.: Way

Me: THE AGE OF T MIKEY SUPREMACY HAS BEGIN

R.W.: I definitely should not have told you that

Me: Bwahahahahaha!
Me: I winnnnnnnn
Me: All wrongs in the world have been made right

R.W.: Well, I was still right about the cover

Me: Class warfare is gone. Cancer is cured. All politicians are benevolent

R.W.: Rockies win the World Series

Ol dude has a big white pet bird in the car with him and I was SO CLOSE to getting the greatest candid “people watching” picture of all time. Bird was on his lap and it looked like the dude was a human with a bird head
If you zoom in, you can see the tail feathers of the bird as it’s climbing back off his lap

I know I'm not the only one, right fellow critters? #TheLegendOfVoxMachina @criticalrole.bsky.social
In the style of a well-known internet meme of the Simpsons character named Apu jumping in front of a bullet to protect another, this meme shows Grog (the character from the Critical Role campaign/show "The Legend of Vox Machina") as the character being protected, while the gun-toting assailant is labeled as "The Deck Of Many Things" and ther represenation of Apu is labeled "Me." It's a joke in reference to the bad history Grog has with the Deck Of Many Things and how the fanbase saw the easter egg in S4 episode 4 of The Legend Of Vox Machina and had certain feelings (comedically) triggered.

Authors, post the last line of dialogue before they smooch. What can we say? Stevie and her quotes found the sweet spot with Ana, intended or not. We hope y’all will read #Projekt, our second novel, when it drops in a few months! #booksky #amwriting
Unedited excerpt from “Projekt”, the upcoming second novel from Jason Marbach & R.W. Meadors. The prompt in the post was “post the last sentence before they smooch,” and this excerpt reads:

“…the counter, and giggled as she said, “If you keep on drinking rum, the world will soon be quit of a very dirty scoundrel!”

She turned to share the laugh with Ana, but instead found Ana standing stock still and staring at her in unmistakable amazement. Stevie’s smile faltered on her face.

“I, uh...sorry, it’s from...Treasure Island. Me and my silly quotes, I guess, I…”

And suddenly Ana was there, firmly entwined around Stevie. The only thing in the universe was the taste of her lips on Stevie’s, the feel of Ana’s palms pressed urgently against the small of Stevie’s back, the blonde hair and the dark hair mixing with one another.”

National day of disruption = Don’t buy the book today, buy it tomorrow. But! It’s also Beltane, & @rwmeadors.bsky.social & I want to send a class-conscious well-wish to you & yours on behalf of Jodi Cahill. May you live in abundance, love, & harmony! #TheMajorArcana #MayDay #Beltane #Booksky
An excerpt from The Major Arcana (by Jason Marbach & R.W. Meadors) from a scene introducing Jodi Cahill and her shop, The Bellafontaine Apothecary:

“He shook his head in amazement.

There was a sizable display of beads in what Eric guessed must be every imaginable color and a large selection of candles, some depicting various Catholic saints on their containers. Another wall featured an assortment of framed photos and posters. One poster depicted assorted astrological formations and a chart of zodiac symbols, and he recognized in another the visage of the infamous Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin. A photo framed beneath the Rasputin poster seemed to be nothing more than an ordinary white rabbit. Eric tilted his head, trying to make sense of that. He couldn’t help but notice that the window display that caught his eye earlier was already gone, with a new display replacing it. Baskets of candles and laurels in green and red and orange colors were strewn about haphazardly near the window, with select pieces arranged in a display now bearing a sign that read Beltane Bonanza.”

Kirkus Reviews has posted their review of The Major Arcana, and this excerpt of it reads as such:

“The narrative deftly shifts back and forth between 2001 and 2020, doling out intriguing tidbits of information on murders both past and present. It’s a curious mess to unravel; as one character points out, “at least with serial killers, you always have something to look forward to.” Readers can certainly look forward to many pages filled with bloody tension.” — 𝘒𝘪𝘳𝘬𝘶𝘴 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸𝘴

When you disturb the past, sometimes the past disturbs you back. The Major Arcana is a blend of literary fic, crime thriller, & urban fantasy. It follows Detective Eric Riley during two different periods of his life hunting the Bayou Phantom. #WSPit #P #CS #A #C #F #M #T #IN Releases April 7, 2026
Excerpt from The Major Arcana (by Jason Marbach & R.W. Meadors) reads as follows:

“As they meandered towards the benches, Calvin said, “Boy, Jude Acers taught me all there is to know about this here game, and that’s why your shiny ass ain’t never beat me once.”Fitz laughed now. “Old man, I beat you not two weeks ago and you know it.”Calvin harrumphed. “You cheated yo’ black ass off.”“I didn’t cheat you, I just baited you. Come on now, don’t be bitter.”Calvin grumbled but said no more as the two men settled on the powder-coated black bench. The paint looked magnificent from a distance, sleek and shiny, but once you got close enough, you could see the rust underneath the flaking paint, and the bird shit and leaves peppered it thoroughly as well. A bolt was missing, and the whole thing seemed to groan and shift slightly as Fitz and the older man eased themselves down onto it. In a way, the bench was a bit of a perfect microcosm of the Crescent City itself, Eric thought: beautiful to behold from a distance but mired with imperfections when examined closely.”

I can’t resist. You reminded me of this so strongly, I had to post. It is I, Chaos Man! (Excerpt from our third book (titled “God, Complex”) that’s in progress currently)
Excerpt from “God, Complex” by Jason Marbach and R.W. Meadors. Excerpt reads:

“Wendy continued to stare into the void as an unearthly wind howled around her, and for a frightening instant, her distressed mind perceived that she saw within the vortex the very face of God. She fell to her knees as though some unseen hands compelled her to do so, and she shouted into the nothingness with all the force she could muster the one thing she knew to be the Truth.

“I NEED A MILKSHAKE!” she informed the vortex. The vortex responded by popping out of existence as suddenly as it had appeared. Most of the tree was still gone, as were the hamsters and the bubblegum.”

persuaded him to dance with her for a

You can’t blame Calla. Nothing made by elven hands in her world has ever been this color before, they’ve never named it. Plus, I mean…YOU try talking to Hartford Ricks for more than 90 seconds & keep your cool. These newcomers called “humans” are weird critters. Unedited #wip excerpt: #TheAlluvion
Excerpt (1 of 4) from the unedited first draft of “The Alluvion” by Jason Marbach and R.W. Meadors. Reads as follows:

“The captain smiled at her. “You will go far in this world, young warhorse.” Then he clapped her on the shoulder again and moved off toward the gnomes. As Calla watched, Atrola herded the human, gnome, and reluctant elf contingent together to begin briefing them for their journey. Calla made to move closer to them so as to hear their conversation better, but instead found her way blocked by a dazzling flash of the familiar but unnamed color she’d seen previously…

*…Oh.*

She leaned backwards and blinked rapidly as the face of the male human who’d attempted to accost her before swam before her sight once more.

“Hey there, gorgeous, glad to see you again! Couldn’t help but notice you…”

(continues in subsequent screenshot)Excerpt (2 of 4) from the unedited first draft of “The Alluvion” by Jason Marbach and R.W. Meadors. Reads as follows:

““Hey there, gorgeous, glad to see you again! Couldn’t help but notice you volunteered to go. Sick, very sick. I didn’t bother to volunteer because I already know I’m too valuable here, but I admire your spirit. Name’s Hartford Ricks, how are you?”

Calla felt the onslaught of the words peppering her face. She could swear her hair blew slightly in the breeze as they passed, and she was more than sure some of the human’s saliva reached her cheek as he spoke. She flicked her finger in some annoyance to wipe away the spittle and allowed her eyes to drop like disdainful stones to glare for the briefest of moments at the hand he’d extended toward her. She suddenly regretted, for the briefest of moments, the language spell which allowed her…”

(continues in subsequent screenshot)Excerpt (3 of 4) from the unedited first draft of “The Alluvion” by Jason Marbach and R.W. Meadors. Reads as follows:

“…extended toward her. She suddenly regretted, for the briefest of moments, the language spell which allowed her now to understand the useless words of this miscreant, and she endeavored with all her considerable will to mortar every venomous moment of her gaze with the greatest levels of contempt.

When she was confident she’d glowered enough, she raised her eyes fiercely back to his and saw the confident smile falter briefly, wilting under the furnace blast of her derision.

“What did you say your name was?” She kept her voice as steady and calm as fathoms-deep waters.

A worthy male would have sensed danger, but this one simply attempted valiantly to reclaim some of his swagger with a renewed grin.”

(excerpt continues in a subsequent screenshot)
Excerpt (4 of 4) from the unedited first draft of “The Alluvion” by Jason Marbach and R.W. Meadors. Reads as follows:

“A worthy male would have sensed danger, but this one simply attempted valiantly to reclaim some of his swagger with a renewed grin.

“Why, the name is Hartford Ricks, little lady, and if there’s anything you require…”

“What color would you say that your tunic is?” she interrupted him pointedly, and he looked momentarily confused.

“My…my shirt? Uh…orange?”

She nodded perfunctorily. “Orange. I see. That is the only thing I shall require of you. Ever.” With this, she made a show of stepping past him and crossing her arms to continue watching the briefing in front of her. She felt, more than saw, him slink away, and felt a savage pleasure at his expense.”
