They focus on the use of integrated assessment models in climate policy to argue that epistemic limitations speak against several strategies for managing performative effects. They suggest that due to such limitations it doesn't always fall within modelers' responsibilities to manage these effects.

They argue that while the deployment of recommender systems is frequently justified on welfarist grounds, such systems fail to deliver on these ambitions. To rectify this, they sketch the contours of an interdisciplinary research program for putting RS on coherent welfare-theoretical foundations.
