Wow, very similar to my lived experience. I was diagnosed last year. Chris Packham on his autism: ‘We’re not overdiagnosing it’ share.google/NTuI3WHdJ4v1...
Screenshot from an article in The Times by Chris Packham. It reads: "I grew up thinking that I was broken. I couldn't understand why I was isolated, excluded and bullied, or why I behaved in certain ways. Not knowing [I was autistic] caused me an enormous amount of mental health issues. When I was diagnosed in my early forties, I was recovering from quite a serious mental health episode. Now I have an understanding and a means of managing the condition.

People say that the diagnosis has given me more confidence. In the past, I would fail to protect myself because I'd feel that I ought to conform. So I used to drink too much. People would say, let's go to a party. And I'd think, oh God. So I'd go to the party and the only way of getting through it was to get completely wasted. Whereas now I don't want to be wasted and therefore I just don't go to parties."

I got the new edition of Plants of the Pacific Coast in the mail today! Really looking forward to going through it and taking it out into the woods with me. Thanks CanScience Books 📖
the book Plants of the Pacific Coast. the cover shows ferns at the base of a thick tree trunk. once I read this, maybe I'll know what the ferns and tree are! my guess for the tree is a western red cedar

Just finished Green City Wars by @aptshadow.bsky.social and I really enjoyed it! If a raccoon detective isn't enough for you: it's dark, funny, and very hard to put down. The dialog is sharp, and the world building makes it feel incredibly lived-in. You should read this.

cleaned up some old gravestones at my local cemetery today and got to visit the monument for Benson Flores, the first known Filipino settler in Canada
the grave marker for Benjamin "Benson" Flores, the first known Filipino to live in Canada. it is surrounded with vivid and fresh flowers of blue, white, and yellow. the inscription reads "Benjamin 'Benson' Flores 1846 - 1929 The first Filipino to settle in Canada in 1861 at Bowen Island, British Columbia. Benson died on April 11 1929 and was buried here without a marker on April 13 1929. Joseph Lopez found out about Benson Flores while visiting the island in 2011. This memorial was placed in commemoration by Kababayans on April 13, 2024

Lastly, to find Nicoló Mangione's marriage certificate, I browsed the wedding book the year before Luigi was born, knowing Italian naming patterns meant the first son would be named after the father's father. If I didn't see it there, I would browse earlier. Nicoló married Carmela Marasà in 1890 3/

Luigi's parents are listed as Nicola Mangione, age 26, son of the late Luigi, and Carmela Marasa. Knowing Nicola's age I was able to find his birth certificate in 1863. Here, Nicola is spelled Nicoló. His parents are Luigi Mangione, born around 1824, and Signorella Lionarda (sp?) born around 1823 2/

Last year I created this photo fan chart with photos of my birth family, which was a really fun project. My computer died shortly after, but luckily I saved my template to the cloud. I want to recreate this soon, with better quality photos I've been able to borrow from aunts and cousins #genealogy

Archaeology is a passion of mine, and I got this tattoo in June. It's inspired by art that was uncovered in Pompeii this year. The original charcoal sketches were made by a child nearly 2000 years ago. Real archaeology and history is so fascinating, who needs pseudoarchaeology?
