mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 29/09/2026I hope you selected "Very Dissatisfied". It's an absolutely nightmarish UI. 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 22/09/2026All the meet-ups today are *&#@ AI based. Anyone in London want to grab a drink after work? 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 21/09/2026Oof, sounds like you've got plenty on your plate. An "obrigada" will charm anyone in Porto in the meantime. 010
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 21/09/2026Probably for the best. Sanity is hard to come by... Is any of those languages Portuguese, by any chance? 120
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 21/09/2026It's fine, it's fine... Just three writing systems, several different words for numbers, and just wait until you want to enumerate objects! There's a good deal of free resources, though, which is nice. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 15/08/2026You can get rid of — but the stench of AI prevails and it's exhausting. 010
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 14/08/2026On an aeroplane, or in an open-plan office, why do people prefer the middle desk? 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 24/06/2026Cool, thanks. Spent absolutely ages trying to understand why my absolutely node free program was doing this, only to realise I'd forgotten the ./ before run.cmd 🙃 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 21/06/2026@coreybutler.com Just wondering if you know that nvm-windows ships with a hardcoded run.cmd path 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 21/06/2026Ah, in this case I want to give my child an old Blackberry to play with, so powder might not work. But I'll keep that in mind because it certainly comes up often enough! 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 20/06/2026As a civilization, could we stop putting sticky rubber coatings on tech, that melt after few years? 110
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 05/06/2026It's too fucking easy for Visual Studio to wipe all my custom syntax highlighting options, and all the backups are a filthy lie. Foomin. 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/06/2026It should be a criminal offence, prosecuted to the full extent of the law, to have your computer unmuted and pinging away in an open-plan office. 130
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 05/05/2026Thankfully, mine is mostly free of such nonsense, but when it does crop up it is entirely infuriating. So many lies, so much AI, so many bots, fuelling so much hate. 000
Reposted by mapgieEinar W. Høst @einarwh.bsky.social · 03/05/2026It’s very easy to read 15% of a book. 111
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 05/05/2026For all the talk of UX, the Internet is truly becoming unbearable to use. 020
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 05/05/2026By the time I finished putting most of the slides together, I had detoured into what I thought I should be talking about instead of what I wanted to say, because I didn't quite feel I deserved to say it. 110
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 05/05/2026This is hard. I prepared a talk once and unforseen circumstances meant I never finished it or delivered it. Part of me thinks that was a blessing. I knew what I wanted to say but I copped out of saying it for fear of the response it might get. 120
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026The red button doesn't make anyone die. I think this conversation has probably run its course. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026I absolutely am being earnest because I entirely reject the notion of red as murder. Red can't "murder" anyone that didn't decide death was a worthwhile risk. But why? Nothing makes blue worthwhile. There is no objective societal gain in the blue choice. It introduces risk, uncertainty, and death. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026If you're going to have faith in others, have faith in them not accepting a game where death is an option and thus that they won't introduce it (thus, choose red). 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026Absolute nonsense. Red is not attempted murder. Nobody is actively harmed by a red choice. Blue isn't virtuous: it introduces the concept and risk of harm. That's just never there if you don't chose for it to be. Red is the only "I don't want to die, and I don't want anyone else to die" choice. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026Voting blue kills a significant number of people if not enough people do it. By voting blue you accept your own death and the death of others is a possibility. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026Choosing blue introduces the concept of killing. Red is the only guaranteed death-free scenario, thus the only moral choice. 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026If you hit blue you may die and others may die. If you hit red you won't die, and if nobody else wants to die either, they would also hit red. You don't need 100% of people to hit red. But if you hit blue you're choosing "I may die & you might also die if you hit blue". Unnecessary gamble. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 03/05/2026Voting red doesn't kill anyone. Voting blue does. Why would a significant majority of people hit blue and take a gamble on themselves and others? And if it is a significant majority voting blue, everyone lives anyway. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 02/05/2026If 100% hit red, nobody dies. Each person who votes blue does so knowing that they risk dying and that others may die. Blue introduces uncertainty and death. Voting red = "I don't want to die and I hope you don't either". Voting red doesn't introduce loss of life. The blue gamble does. 100
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 26/04/2026So, at a time when fascism is rising globally, they're saying "shhhh, close your eyes..."? 🤔 110
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 23/04/2026Imagine if end-to-end encryption was invented solely for bypassing app gateway WAFs. 000
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 17/04/2026Having been a part of one of these before... Women in Tech panels need to be less excruciatingly dry to not risk doing us a massive disservice. 010
mapgie @mapgie.co.uk · 17/04/2026"Experience of Uniface 10 at least" And indeed, at most, shirty recruiter who thinks 70-100USD p/hour on a 12mo contract is an appealing proposition to me. 000
