Sometimes I forget that “Kinks” doesn’t just mean an English 60s band. When I started listening to them, I looked up the word, the translation came up as “revoltoso" something like “rowdy.” I spent years only seeing that word in the context of the band, so I never associated it with anything else.

I found an unfinished poem today: “In the middle of the chaos I have in mind your image” Oh, I wonder who I was thinking about, hehe. “your green beanie (…)” Wait, WHAT? IT WAS A POEM ABOUT MICHAEL NESMITH. I probably wrote that in May 2021... Yeah. It was a weird year.😕

Who me? Yes you. Calling of Saint Matthew, 1599, from the church of San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. By the great Caravaggio, whose day is today.

After all these dry, dusty days and a few light showers, it looks like what I was afraid of is finally coming, a huge thunderstorm is forming. That’s not very exciting, actually I’m frightened, but I just heard this song and I really liked it. music.youtube.com/watch?v=7yqf...

People say this is a song about masturbation, and they might be right. I took the whole “looking at pictures” thing literally because that’s what I used to do when I was 13 before going to sleep: just look at pictures of Dennis Wilson. youtu.be/bIQZRvxQ6VA?...

I was gifted a used turntable, so I finally got to listen to The Monkees and The Hollies and The Byrds on vinyl for the first time!!! I’m SO EXCITED. And it rained yesterday! There are still earthquakes happening, and it’s still really hot, but I’m way too amazed by everything right now.

Turn! Turn! Turn! album cover, it has such a beautiful blue.

Sometimes I wonder if Ray Davies had the “America” song from West Side Story in mind when he composed “Australia” y’know, ironic songs about immigration. When I heard Trini Lopez’s version, I noticed some musical similarities, especially the way they say “Australia” after “a sunny Christmas day.”

Yesterday I came across this Sandro song and learned that it’s a cover of “You’ve got the nerve to call this love” by Paul Anka. Anka has such a tender voice, but Sandro’s endearing version has this vibe that reminds me that Brazil and Argentina share a border. youtu.be/_vz7nP3K5dQ?...

There have been more earthquakes, in the afternoon and then again around 1 a.m. They’ve felt like one single wave pushing against the house. The wildfires have continued as well, and it’s already mid-September, but the rains still haven’t come.😓

September 10th, one month after the earthquake. The mayor announced a memorial at 7:30, when all the church bells will ring. And rationally, I know it’s just a tribute. But my nervous system is like, “Oh, I get it. 7:30 means we’re going to have another earthquake.”

In January, my niece told my mom that I was interested in a guy with long hair, and my mom joked, “I wouldn’t let her date a long-haired guy” I remembered this while listening to The Pretty Things and thought: maybe I'm my own long-haired guy. (I am not. Too wholesome for whatever she’s imagining).

This is such a good find! Didn’t know about the existence of this. I loved Ray’s voice on “Let’s Take Off Our Clothes”, shy but still daring. I think I’m going to have this song stuck in my head all day. A little silly, but sweet and tender.

Yesterday I talked about the World Cup with my nephew, he showed me the album he is filling in. I felt happy, but at the same time a bit sad. It reminded me how I used to talk about football with my dad, makes me feel a little nostalgic to think about the relationship we had when I was 9 years old.
