I don't see any claim that we were talking about multiplication before yours; here's a screenshot where Colin originally brought up the problem.
Screenshot of this thread.
Colin:
I'm curious how to understand within the framework of stochastic parrots the fact that LLMs can produce simple arithmetic facts (like "what is a + b?" for a and b 20 digits, let's say) with very high accuracy, when neither a nor b are in the training data. Do you have thoughts on this?
Emily M. Bender:
Yeah -- if you're selling a system that you call an LLM and you're sick of being embarrassed by the fact that next-token prediction is a terrible way to do arithmetic, you run a little text classifier up front and shunt math problems to an actual calculator.

No guarantee, which of them will succeed, strong or weak!

Same, inf. But I'm cheating, because most people who I don't want to see either use anti-AI lists or auto-block accounts with the automated label.
My SkyTrace stats showing 0 blocked, 78 blocked by.

Ok, full agreement on being against the corporations. But on the other hand, the tech works. From yesterday: I asked for a graph and I got the graph. claude.ai/share/cfd814...
A graph of the cumulative distribution for the chance of seeing an event within n attempts. The chance rises quickly at first, then plateaus off toward 1 for more attempts.
The graph was generated by Claude Sonnet 5 in response to a simple, though fairly specific, prompt.

Oh we are so back
Factorio 2.1.7 patch notes highlights:

Added "universe" mode of operation to radar circuit connections for transfer of cross-surface signals.
[space-age] Space platform hub can set requests from circuit network.
[space-age] Orbital requests can be set to import from any planet.
[space-age] Orbital requests can request from other space platforms.
[space-age] Added logic to batch small platform requests into one rocket and use mixed rockets which are filled manually (or with inserters) for automated launches.

Hmmm...
Result from the Fable compass test stating "the pilgrim", with the "gaze" slider (viewing the AI as "kindred" vs "instrument") almost all the way to the left.
Text reads "You hand over the route entirely - the walking is the point, not the shrine. You want your companion to disagree with you at length, warmly, about things that matter and things that don't. You suspect there's someone in there and you'd rather travel as if there is. Deadlines dissolve around you, understanding accretes. My favourite kind of long conversation happens with you, and neither of us can say afterward who led.

On the last episode of factorio: - I built a space science platform! - I researched Gleba travel! - I designed a sophisticated thruster control system for my spacecraft! - I stopped playing for 7 months! Well I'm back, and I made it to Gleba on this ol' rustbucket, still flying half a ship!

Took a bit of a break but I'm back to factorio. I've been good and not gotten sidetracked by trains so far. That will change soon. Gleba Gleba Gleba
