This work would have not been possible without such great coauthors Miha, Inés, Alessio and Fedor : ) If you are working on similar topics, feel free to drop an email (or a DM)!

Then we interpret them under the perspective of topological codes and their anyons, what allows us to extend this strategy to other encodings. We also give an embedding of our approach under the 6.6.6 color code to show that is a quite flexible strategy.

In our paper, we first find two new local encodings for spinless and spinful systems embedding them in the surface codeand find a strategy to grow their distance.

Each fermion-to-qubit encoding has an error correction code naturally associated. While using this feature for error correction seems the right way to go for fault-tolerant approach or post-selection on NISQ+ devices, the fixed distance of previous encodings would limit this.

We just released our preprint scirate.com/arxiv/2505.0... on arbitrary code distance fermion-to-qubit encodings! Almost all previous fermionic encodings have a fixed distance but we give a strategy to arbitrarily grow their distance and use it for Verstraete-Cirac and others.

New QEC paper out 🙂 Our tile codes are a new and simple approach to construct local codes on a 2D planar lattice. Read more here if you're interested: scirate.com/arxiv/2504.0...
