Nothing quite like a sunset in the park. Wish you were here.

Spectaculat sunset over a snowy ridge. Brilliant orange with an intense light at the crown. There's some nice cloud structure amid the fading light.

Ths person in the middle has light olive skin with a blonde wig with twin buns and pigtails, cosplaying the anime character Sailor Moon. The person on the right has a heart sticker over their face from their own request.

Who’s ready to party? This is a close-knit collection of five galaxies, called the Hickson Compact Group 40, as seen by Hubble. There are three spiral galaxies, an elliptical galaxy, and a lenticular (lens-like) galaxy. Details: bit.ly/3BkX78H 🔭 🧪

Five galaxies appear close to each other in the sky. At upper left, a spiral galaxy is tilted, appearing wider than it is tall. It has a glowing yellow center and reddish-brown dust trails that spiral clockwise around it. Above the center is a large elliptical galaxy. Its round, glowing yellow center is surrounded by a fuzzy yellow halo that fades away from the core. Toward the bottom right are three galaxies that appear to touch. The largest is in the center: a nearly vertical, edge-on spiral galaxy. Its glowing yellow core is mostly obscured by reddish-brown dust trails dotted with blue stars. To its bottom left is a smaller, tilted spiral galaxy with a glowing yellow center. Reddish-brown dust trails are dotted with blue stars. One spiral arm appears to touch the vertical galaxy to its right. At the spiral’s bottom right is a lenticular galaxy with a glowing central core in the middle of a hazy yellow disk, appearing almost face-on. It seems to touch the large spiral galaxy above it

Tonight in Star Gazing in the Park Photo credit JWEBB Milky Way, interstellar medium Swirling ribands of dust form ribands due to gravitational, electric and tidal forces which inhabit the spaces between stars. Typically invisible this image was brought to you by the light of Zeta Ophiuchi

Though space is chock-full of interstellar medium, it tends to be invisible unless lit up by a celestial spotlight. Sometimes, scientists get lucky: In 2012, NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope grabbed an image of lacy interstellar medium illuminated by Zeta Ophiuchi, a large star roughly 370 light-years away

NEWS: Dwarf galaxy Leo P—the clustering of blue stars at lower right—has an oddball history. After an early burst of star formation, its star production shut down. But unlike most dwarf galaxies, star formation reignited and continues today: bit.ly/4j6OgIQ #AAS245 🔭 🧪

A concentration of bright blue stars occupies the bottom right corner of the image. At bottom center within them is a small blue bubble. The stars and bubble are part of a diffuse dwarf galaxy that extends beyond the image border. Background galaxies are scattered across the image, with some particularly prominent spirals located at upper left and upper right. The background of space is black.
