I don't think I've ever had all of those at the same time.

Labor paid lip service to criticisms of the system while in opposition, but they've spent most of the last few years defending it.

Vanilla is considered boring because it is in everything. Vanilla is in everything because it's fucking amazing.

Aukus is such a bad deal for Australia it goes beyond corruption into the realm of treason.

It could be instead to buy respect and social acceptance. Corruption for a less tangible personal benefit.

The sandbox exists only as part of the pr story. They hack a target then concoct a tale of breaking containment to con investors into handing over all their money.

I tend to play games that I consider to be playable even down to single digit frame rates, but I do recognise that 60fps is desirable for most games.

Sooo... their usual nebulous "broke containment" line wasn't working anymore and they decided to create a specific scenario they could give details about. No surprise that Australia was the easy target they needed to create an actually newsworthy incident.

While this would work great for freight and fleet vehicles, I don't see it being implemented for private vehicles. It's too involved a process to push on the end user and would either require a lot of market cooperation or buying into isolated ecosystems.

It's not even an about-face, they've been saying the same thing for ages, and they don't care about halting the momentum, they're just trying to embezzle as much money as they can before it all goes up in smoke.

There is no story, it is a marketing strategy to con investors into thinking a product has been developed.

There's no point, the electric motors used in EVs don't have the same limitations that ICEs do that require the use of multiple gears.

Shaggy @manecharsyndrome.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
You'll never find an EV with a manual transmission because an EV doesn't need to change gears like an ICE does.

Shaggy @manecharsyndrome.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Only 33%? Electricity is cheaper than petrol, and EVs have lower maintenance and servicing costs than ICEs too.

Selective breeding has developed sterile crops well before GMOs. That's how we get pretty much all seedless fruits.

Shaggy @manecharsyndrome.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
The problem with GMOs is companies who patent crops and then sue into oblivion farmers who replant crops or whose crops cross pollinate with their neighbours

You'd get better results just installing solar panels over where cars spend most their time, i.e. parking spots and garages.
000 0
Shaggy @manecharsyndrome.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
Yep, and it comes down to the same reason you don't need to change gears in an EV. An electric motor can output much more consistent torque over a wide range of speeds. With an ICE you need to spend a small amount of time building up to its full power, otherwise you'll stall.

Doing something about it is influencing their own lives. If they don't believe they have the ability to influence their own life, they don't believe they can do anything about it.

Not banned, just made to pay the full economic cost of their impact on a region. Pay for upgrades to the electricity grid, pipelines from areas of plentiful water to arid regions, build new homes to make up for those not where the data centre is, food subsidies if on farmable land, etc.

Also it's written and blocked to avoid having actors eat on camera. Food being eaten is a pain for continuity, a pain for set resetting, and uncomfortable for doing multiple takes. Even when actors do eat the food, it's not pleasant. It's cold, bland, and most of it is spit out.

It's just not worth it. Space isn't really a limiting factor at the moment, it would require major infrastructure to connect to the grid, and there are diminishing returns when focusing so heavily on a single technology.
