Online Exhibition: Historical Snapshots and Sketches It is impossible to succinctly summarize the 20th century. However, memorable phrases can characterize pivotal moments. Churchill’s "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat" is undoubtedly one of them. "An American airplane dropped a bomb on Hiroshima, destroying its usefulness to the enemy" (President Harry S. Truman on August 6, 1945) is another.

According to ancient Greek cosmogony, chaos (χάος) was the first being of the universe. For Heraclitus it was the very foundation of reality. Hesiod taught that Chaos was followed by Erebos (darkness), Eros, Gaia (earth), Tartarus (hell), and others. The mathematician Edward Lorenz examined the chaos and realized that it isn't as chaotic as it seems. Underlying the apparent randomness of chaotic complex systems, he found patterns which led to the theory of the deterministic chaos.

"It was our aim that the poetry itself—alive within the tales—would have an influence and delight whom it can, that it could thus serve as an educational tool. For such a work, we do not seek that sort of purity which is attained through an anxious expurgation of everything that relates to certain conditions and relations, which occur daily and in no way can remain hidden."

The Portuguese gallery Atelier Ghostbirds organized an international mail art exhibition in January benefiting the Fund for Global Human Rights. It featured 321 works by 184 artists from 27 countries. For the organizers the contributions were "a personal spark, a quiet act of resistance, a reminder that creativity travels further than any one gallery wall. Together, this dense constellation of envelopes, stamps, smudges, and marks forms a living network that echoes the Dadaists’ belief that art belongs in everyday life—and that even the most modest fragment can carry profound meaning."

The Cambridge Dictionary defines holistic as "dealing with or treating the whole of something or someone and not just a part". The title of Elianas call is Blumen, the German word for flowers. She sees flowers as a metaphor for inner blossoming, free self-expression, and connection with the world around you.
