manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 12/10/2026It’s as though we’ve learned nothing from milkshake duck 010
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Also, Alberta has had the highest standard of living in the country 49 years out of 50. That isn’t how being ripped off works. 1101
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 10/10/2026He literally cites the sky palace dinner as a complaint. My dude, that was Alberta cabinet at the Alberta legislature! Smdh 081
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 09/10/2026There are already two conflicting online registration deadlines on the Elections AB website, one of them being today which is two days too late (NB: phone and in person still available). Must admit when I saw that, I wondered if it was deliberate to allow wiggle room later. 010
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 09/10/2026It’s this scene from Until the End of the World with the dream recorder, which smart phones have already manifested but yeah this will be even more so. 040
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 08/10/2026But not wanting to dissuade anyone: you can still register by phone or a couple of in person options (according to the same sketchy official website at least) 011
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I just learned the Elections AB website has two different dates posted for online registration deadlines. October 9 (incorrect: online tool is now closed) www.elections.ab.ca/resources/me... October 7 www.elections.ab.ca/voters/regis... Something so consequential shouldn’t be such a gong show 121
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Can we not agree to normalize telling people to turn off their speakers in public places? Like let’s pick a date, get a slogan, make it happen. 020
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Guys, when the Boston dynamics cyberdog shows up for the hardware pick-up don’t give it to them ok 020
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Aside from which, there are _still_ 32% in favor. One in three!! Which I know is shockingly low but… it’s also shockingly high. That every third person has such a stone cold selfish heart… it’s really unsettling. 020
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Well it was also egg prices, which are obviously more significant since every part of the economy from resource extraction to manufacturing to transport relies on eggs for fuel, there’s really no way to avoid the impact of higher egg prices. 000
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Here’s kbh inner city relative to calgary. Again pretty comparable size and for most people quite rideable with an e-bike. Beyond this you’d be more likely to take transit or drive but still a _lot_ of people’s daily trips fit in here. 030
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 12/09/2026I’m not going to swear to these numbers but I looked them up last year and it seemed like kbh region is about 20% higher density overall and that was true of the region as well as the city as well as the core iirc. Someone should double check this though :) 100
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Had to go do stuff but wanted to include this info comparing Copenhagen’s region To the calgary metro region: Sjælland | CMR Area: 7000 | 5100 km2 Pop: 2.3M | 1.8M Density: 327.4 | 272.5 ppl/km2 GDP p.c.: 70.9 | 69.4 CAD Income p.c.: 73.4k | 60.1k CAD Disposable: 49.1k | 41.2k 110
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Anyhow I doubt we’ll get any sudden shift (unless circumstances force it) but in the meantime I’d be pretty happy if they just connected a couple of the existing bike lanes like 5th st to the elbow pathway for eg. Removing barriers means more than just diehards do it, and momentum builds. 000
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Oh ok. Well I’m not gonna fight you on that. 25km is gonna be a hard winter commute. But I think the OP was saying most of calgary is within 2-3km of much of what they need on a regular basis so for a lot of people bikes are more viable than they think (though not usually as their only transport) 100
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I wouldn’t say it’s imminent but it’s not impossible. Copenhagen and calgary aren’t as wildly different as people assume. 140
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Yes there are situations where bikes are not a good option. Who is disputing this? 151
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I’ll admit that most people aren’t going to do this as it stands. But say with Copenhagen levels of bike infra and good transit connections it’s entirely possible most of us could be doing it. And enjoying it, in fact. Because it is actually more enjoyable than driving (and I like driving). 160
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I live in Calgary and e-ride all winter with no real issues. Commuted 10km to work. Got groceries. Hauled kid around. Hands/feet do get cold below -20, true, but -15 is very comfortable. Harder now that kid is too big for the back seat and has to be in seton one day, rocky ridge the next. 2101
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Not to mention take credit (constantly) for bad stuff you did but (constantly) repeat for the malleable that it was good, actually. And while we’re at it, take credit (constantly) for stuff neither you nor anyone else actually did. 020
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 03/09/2026But they still don’t understand. They only understand that it’s happening to them. They don’t care that it’s happening to others. They are literally blind to anyone else’s problems. 010
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 01/09/2026isn’t that a fairly typical power-elite-family:population ratio in an industrialized western country? Maybe it stands out because it’s only three cities, but we only have like five or six 030
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Amazed at this optimism that anyone will be sharing the wealth. If robots can perform all the labor and it’s all owned by ten guys, they’ll just cut us loose. And if we cause any trouble or take up too much space they’ll have their robot armies murder us. What in our present time suggests otherwise? 000
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Man, if only. A Biden admin failing the American people would still be 1000x better than this worldwide daily disaster 000
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Working in India years back some male colleagues were wondering how we in the west could think straight with women walking around in shorts and skirts, but were surprised to hear bare waists in saris and durga cholis might be some kind of hot stuff. “Yeah, whatever, but _ankles_ man!” 020
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 20/08/2026To underline that point: 14 million deaths projected by 2030 (recent study in Lancet). Worse than Stalin. 020
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Not to mention dismantling of alliances worldwide. People will always be somewhat transactional when it comes to money and power, so looking like friends again may be possible sooner, but will be a generation or more before we regain any confidence in America as a partner. 020

manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Like, I don’t know, if I was one of the most detested people on earth I might not want to encourage everyone to join an angry mob and do angry mob things. 010
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 26/07/2026I mean, by his logic it wouldn’t be shunning but assassination. Not that I personally condone political violence, but it’s odd they never seem to consider this is the natural extension of the argument that it’s ok or even necessary: people will reach different conclusions as to who is a target. 220
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 26/07/2026It’s counterintuitive because you’d think wealth and power would give you freedom. But the hunger for it means you need to keep going back to the well, and the well is the elite clique and status conferred. Most don’t just cash out. They’re hooked. And they warp each other like a funhouse. 010
manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Another aspect of this is that rich and powerful people are socially calibrating amongst each other with extreme intensity matched maybe only by junior high. They desperately don’t want to lose what they have, so they all copy each other like a flock of birds. “I’m one of us! I’m one of us.” 100

manderbabble @manderbabble.bsky.social · 23/07/2026And the south forgets, like goldfish, what started all this in the first place. “Provincial actions” are a direct result of ludicrous tariffs and asinine 51st state taunting.
