Hey folks, does anyone here have an arXiv account and can endorse a new user? Trying to submit a paper and really need help. Pls DM or reply if you can! 🙏 #arxiv #help

So today is day 8 of 100. SVM doesn't just find a boundary. It finds the one with the most room on both sides. C controls how much it tolerates crossing that margin. Gamma controls how far a point's influence reaches once you're in RBF territory.

So today is day 7 of 100. KNN: no training, no gradient, just vote among the K nearest points. Simplest algorithm in ML, and the easiest to get quietly wrong. Skip scaling and one large-range feature silently dominates every distance calculation. Unlike trees, KNN can't shrug that off.

So today is day 6 of 100. Polynomial features: the fastest way to make a model overfit on purpose. Degree 10 and it memorizes the noise. Learning curves tell you the fix. Both curves low and close: high bias, more data won't help. Big gap: high variance, add data or regularize.

So today is day 5 One train-test split is one roll of the dice. K-fold rotates the holdout, trains K times, and shows you the variance, not just the average. A great mean with wild variance is not a model you should trust. Ran ovr vs ovo on a 3+ class problem to see which one actually holds up.

So today is day 4 of 100. Logistic regression: squash a linear output through the sigmoid, get a probability. Swap MSE for log-loss and the model learns to be honest about uncertainty, not just confident. Accuracy lies when classes are imbalanced. Precision, recall, and ROC-AUC are why.

Manas  @manasdutta.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
So today is day 3 of 100. Regularization: the fix for a model that memorizes instead of learns. Ridge shrinks coefficients, Lasso can zero them out, ElasticNet blends both. The tell in the data: test error drops as alpha increases, then rises again once the penalty gets too aggressive.

Manas  @manasdutta.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
So today is day 2 of 100. Multiple linear regression: same update, X just gets more columns. The catch is scale. One feature in the thousands, another under 1, and gradient descent zigzags. Standardize first: z = (x - mean) / std.

So today is day 1 of 100. Built linear regression from scratch in NumPy. Intuition, MSE, gradient descent by hand first, then code, then checked against scikit-learn. Small loop: predict, check the error, adjust, repeat. A lot of ML is built on that.

2/ refinement is an underrated part of software engineering. the first version proves an idea. the next versions prove the quality.

1/ spent the day refining my college final year project. improving existing features, fixing small issues, and making the overall experience better. the details matter.

4/ one thing I'm learning: building software is only half the job. aligning people around a vision is equally important.

3/ as the team lead, I also conducted a project meeting. discussed the current progress, future scope, roadmap, and the next set of priorities.

2/ reviewed pull requests from my teammates. good code isn't just written—it's reviewed, discussed, and improved together.
