The one time I installed a sports betting app to see how it operates, I could smell the mind games and terrible odds like an unflushed urinal. This page from Danny Funt's "Everybody Loses" gets to the heart of the ripoff that is sports betting apps:
A passage of text explaining how multi-leg parlays create a tantalizing dopamine rush and mistaken impression of being close to getting a payout. On the same and next page, Bonaddio compares his gambling work to Dept of Defense contracting, as in, feeling guilty for helping build something so destructive.

My new job has somewhat changed my reading patterns, but comics will always be a place to recharge. (Source: "Kurumizawa's Folly" by Yohira Tokiwa)

One of the better anime tie-in books I've read, and book two is coming in October? I'm there! (Consider me posting this at nearly 1:30am as a key element of my endorsement)

My library-themed commander deck will finally swap from mono-blue to blue-white.
Whtz, the Bibliophile, a creature card from Magic The Gathering that is blue and white, allows unlimited deck size as commander, and can tap to draw a card and gain a life for free if the opening deck had at least 200 cards.

"No Longer Allowed In Another World" makes the joke that so many other isekai writers must resist / get talked out of, but I'm glad it's here. (Happy late #WeebWednesday)
Manga page in which a guide to the isekai afterlife explains the concept of the "isekai jackpot truck," a truck in our world that kills random pedestrians to send them to a new life of fantasy adventure and leveling up fantastic skills. To the fantasy world, the murder truck is considered a transport service.

Dang, this year's Graphic Novels In Libraries issue of Booklist really fired on all cylinders. A round of applause to the writers, editors, designers, and librarians who pulled that off.

Was reading manga on the fourth of July when I came across this bit of serendipity.
Page from the manga "The Rose of Versailles," in which characters excitedly discuss some historical events:
"Have you heard?! England has acknowledged America's independence!"
"A-ah!! Then... The American Revolutionary War is over...?"
"The revolutionary force has been returning bit by bit! And the peace treaties are to be drafted right here at Versailles!"
