I think too much, but sometimes it comes in handy. "Any pronouns" in my case means "surprise me". I don't click Substack links. Profile picture adapted from art by Don Cabanza.

Well,
A screenshot of the first skeet in the above thread at the top of the For You feed. Immediately below it is a skeet from Paul Frazee. The second skeet in the thread is not visible.

Antonin Artaud, in his quite literally psychotic surrealist work "To Have Done with the Judgement of God", accurately captured the American attitude toward children and their sexes way back in 1948.
I learned yesterday
one of the most sensational of those official practices of American public schools
which no doubt account for the fact that this country believes itself to be in the vanguard of progress,
It seems that, among the examinations or tests required of a child entering public school for the first time, there is the so-called seminal fluid or sperm test,
which consists of asking this newly entering child for a small
amount of his sperm so it can be placed in a jar
and kept ready for any attempts at artificial insemination that might later take place.
For Americans are finding more and more that they lack muscle
and children,
that is, not workers
but soldiers,
and they want at all costs and by every possible means to make and manufacture soldiers
with a view to all the planetary wars which might later take place,
and which would be intended to demonstrate by the over-whelming virtues of force
the superiority of American products,
and the fruits of American sweat in all fields of activity and of the superiority of the possible dynamism of force.

"The current vibe is no drinking, no drugs, 9-9-6 [working from gam to 9pm, six days a week], lift heavy, run far, marry early, track sleep, eat steak and eggs," Daksh Gupta, the 23-year-old co-founder of an AI start-up, told the San Francisco Standard recently.

Two-panel cartoon reaction image. Panel 1, a stick figure with furrowed brow and a frown opens their mouth as if to speak, a hand held in front of them with one finger raised. Panel 2, the figure has closed their mouth, now pressed into a thin line, and their raised finger has flagged and lowered somewhat.

The only interaction this stuff will get from me is a report and a block. People posting this are either cops, right wing ops, or dangerously naive. I report it because the post's very existence poses a danger for anyone ignorant or reckless enough to give it any kind of positive engagement.
Screenshot of the body of a Bluesky post. It says, There is another way to stop Trump. Single-line text art portrays a face peering into a scoped rifle with a muzzle flash.

Edit of the let me in meme. Eric Andre frantically grabs at a tall steel fence, crying, "Let me in," then throwing back his head and shouting, "Let me in!". The fence is labeled with the Japanese character mu (or the Chinese character wu), the one meaning "nothing" or "without".

"Only money that goes out of date like a newspaper, rots like potatoes, rusts like iron, evaporates like ether, is capable of standing the test as an instrument for the exchange of potatoes, newspapers, iron and ether. For such money is not preferred to goods either by the purchaser or the seller. We then part with our goods for money only because we need the money as a means of exchange, not because we expect an advantage from possession of the money. So we must make money worse as a commodity if we wish to make it better as a medium of exchange."

Still of news footage from BBC Breakfast. A white person with short white hair and short goatee-stash combo, blue scrubs, and a sober, earnest expression is speaking to someone off-camera. They stands in front of bins of medical supplies. A banner at the bottom of the screen them as Nick Burns-Cox, consultant urologist, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.

"Within a matter of weeks our small group was letting it all out - weeping, raging, grieving, and consoling; there were a lot of tears and a fair bit of snot."
Sickos meme. A man with frizzy hair, bushy eyebrows, pointy teeth, and an evil leer is pressed against a window, looking in from outside. His black long-sleeved shirt is labeled across the chest with the word sickos. A speech bubble shows him saying: Yes ha ha ha yes, with the last yes bold, italic, and underlined.

Tap the sign meme. Two Simpsons stills. First still, bus driver says: Don't make me tap the sign. Second still, driver taps sign above windshield. Sign has been edited to show the text: Without replication it's not science, it's just an anecdote.

Wow, I just noticed that the alt text isn't real alt text 🙄 Here it is with an actual description.
As captioned at the bottom: a photo of the letter, which has been turned over to Congress by the Epstein estate. End caption. The letter is a widely spaced dialog typeset inside an outline of a torso with an hourglass shape. The torso has two curves indicating rather small breasts. Transcript of letter follows. Voice over. There must be more to life than having everything. Donald. Yes, there is, but I won't tell you what it is. Jeffrey. Nor will I, since I also know what it is. Donald. We have certain things in common, Jeffrey. Jeffrey. Yes, we do, come to think of it. Donald. Enigmas never age, have you noticed that? Jeffrey. As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you. Donald. A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.

Jacque Lacan's formula for a fantasy, with a speech bubble making the quoted post appear to be spoken by the barred S. The formula consists of a capital letter S with a diagonal bar through it, a lozenge, and a lowercase letter A.

gilbetron 60 days ago. I get so confused on this. I play around, test, and mess with LLMS all the time and they are miraculous. Just amazing, doing things we dreamed about for decades. I mean, I can ask for obscure things with subtle nuance where I misspell words and mess up my question and it figures it out. It talks to me like a person. It generates really cool images. It helps me write code. And just tons of other stuff that astounds me. And people just sit around, unimpressed, and complain that ... what ... it isn't a perfect superintelligence that understands everything perfectly? This is the most amazing technology I've experienced as a 50+ year old nerd that has been sitting deep in tech for basically my whole life. This is the stuff of science fiction, and while there totally are limitations, the speed at which it is progressing is insane. And people are like, "Wah, it can't write code like a Senior engineer with 20 years of experience!"
Crazy.

Oh okay, that makes sense www.nytimes.com/2022/06/23/t...
Unlike a traditional selfie, which people can endlessly prepare and pose for, the 0.5 selfie — so named because users tap 0.5x on a smartphone camera to toggle to ultra-wide mode — has become popular because it is far from curated. Since the ultra-wide-angle lens is built into the back cameras of phones, people can’t watch themselves take a 0.5 selfie, creating random images that convey the whimsy of distortion.

Dude WHAT? Does this person understand that the solution here needs to be cutting back on TikTok? (Reposted with alt text.)
"I spend so much time on TikTok. Hours and hours, until my eyes start hurting, which makes it hard to plan and do my schoolwork. With ChatGPT, I can write an essay in two hours that normally takes 12."

Facebook post from Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania. It reads: We're facing a critical shortage of healthcare professionals, especially in our rural communities. But we have the power to fix this. The post cuts off with a see more link.A Chinese propaganda poster for the barefoot doctor program. It portrays a young person with a white coat, a medical bag, and a wide brimmed hat slung across their back. In the background there is a high-voltage electric pylon, for some reason. There is Chinese text, but I don't know how to transcribe that.

Slowpoke, the Pokémon. It is a roughly hippo shaped quadruped with very pink skin and a long tail with a white tip. Its large eyes are held wide open, and its pupils are pinpoints. Its jaw hangs slack.

A two panel comic, an edit of a Chick Tract. In the first panel, Jesus stands beneath a tree, looking down at a crowd, saying, "Blocked. Blocked. Blocked." The second blocked is bold, and the third is bold and italic. In the second panel, we see a close up of this very European-looking Jesus, saying "You're all blocked" with blocked bold and italic. Then, in all bold and italic with the first word underlined "none of you are free of sin." A caption at the bottom of the second panel says "the people were astonished, that word in all caps, at his doctrine" with a citation of Matthew chapter 5 verses 27 to 28.
