In vivo electrophysiology in head-fixed and freely moving mole-rats
Shirdhankar et al. establish a method to record from single neurons in the brain of African mole-rats while they are head-fixed or freely moving, performing natural behaviors. The method allows the study of sensory perception and neural adaptations of these strictly subterranean rodents, well known for their longevity, cancer resistance, and magnetic sense.

Paper alert - A revolution in circular statistics We show a new way to analyse circular data (such as times or directions) that supports multiple variables and repeated measurements. 🔗 besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... #Statistics #DataAnalysis #Magnetoreception #AnimalNavigation

Advanced circular statistics in biology: Multiple factors, interactions and repeated measures
Circular data is common across biology and the wider sciences, but presents unique analytical challenges due to their wrapped structure, where endpoints coincide (e.g. 360° = 0°). This requires th...

Neuronal recordings in head-fixed and freely-moving mole-rats
Mole-rats are subterranean rodents that have evolved remarkable sensory adaptations to life in underground tunnel systems, yet their neural mechanisms remain largely unexplored. Here, we present a pro...
