Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Hope was absolutely wild viewing. Some spectacular filmmaking, incredible camerawork and impressive stuntwork. An insane monster movie blending multiple genres, and it mostly works. The dodgy CGI holds it back, but I still enjoyed what this tries ✌🏾 000
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Resident Evil: Love when a movie completely immerses you in its world, took me back to the OG PS2 game. Funny, gory and plays out like a mental game sequence. Zach Cregger gives us the everyman trying to navigate the horrors of Racoon City and it's spot on. 030
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I Want Your Sex: Teased but didn't go all the way. Olivia Wilde is fearless in this! Was like of Baby Girl, The Secretary and Under The Silver Lake had a threesome and this is the result. A wild ride of movie that is a volatile as it is unafraid in the execution of the premise. 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Everybody To Kenmure Street: Astonishing documentary of people simply turning up to stop the deportation of their neighbours. Ordinary people knowing something had to be done. Scots are built different, it's why I love being in Glasgow ✌🏾 Society isn’t totally screwed, just run by megalomaniacs 021
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Erupcja: Arthouse vibes in Warsaw, where people meet, leave, and stumble into strange coincidences and the vapid characters take everything in. The use of colour is fantastic, giving it a distinctive visual style. Also...The boyfriend is such a wet wipe. 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 13/09/2026A slow-burn police procedural/psychological thriller about a missing girl. A priest, released convict and police officer are haunted by their own demons. Cleverly unfolding even when the answers are in plain sight, though it could have done more with its subject matter and revelations. 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026BABY ASSASSINS (2021) is a lot of fun. Two teenage assassins juggle crappy jobs, Nintendo Switch and awkwardly fitting into society, while also carrying out hits. A deadpan slacker comedy with brilliant offbeat humour, great chemistry and some seriously impressive fight scenes. 120
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026PENNY LANE IS DEAD goes places, delivering unflinching brutality, nasty Ozploitation flick. An unwanted guest scenario spirals from bad to WTF. It drags in the middle, but the final 30 minutes deliver. Brutal, raw and mean-spirited. I didn't get on with parts of it but appreciate what it tried to do 021
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026One Night Only has a baffling concept set under a controlling (and weirdly accepted) government. Cute-ish and watchable, but so much doesn't make sense, and I had SO many questions. Imagine David Cronenburg or Lars Von Trier made this... would be 5 stars! 000
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Parasomnia is a solid feature debut. A young woman suffering from sleep terrors is stalked by an entity, as the unsettling dealings of the subconscious unfold. Creepy and atmospheric, with some good scares, practical effects and a strong monster build-up. Despite a few odd moments, I enjoyed this. 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 02/09/2026How quick did FrightFest go this year! Thanks to the organisers and volunteers. Here are my top picks from the festival (in no order): Colony Salmokji: Whispering Water Ghost In The Cell Sanguine/Species Buddy Sweet Violence Grind Spider Island You Are The Film Recluse 030
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 20/08/2026This time next week...this all starts again at @frightfest.bsky.social The best time of the year! 041
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 18/08/2026HELLCAT starts as a tense, claustrophobic survival thriller, trapping you inside a camper as horrors unfold largely off screen. Then the second half flips the script, going completely insane with twists. Unsettling, unpredictable and with a powerful final sequence 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Think zombie apocalypse, but swap the zombies for dinosaurs and give the characters some seriously questionable decision making skills. As a family focused survival thriller, it kept me engaged, but lacked the dread and that plot was shaky. Oh and that kid was the dumbest! 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Pools: A dreamy coming of age story about a girl struggling at school and grieving her father, during a pool hopping night with friends. Beautifully shot heartfelt ode to the summers of youth, carried by Odessa A'zion. It slows in the second half, but the payoff really lands. 030

Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 24/07/2026California Schemin': This was fun to watch….two down on their luck Scottish rappers, adopt American personas. The fame and adulation works differently for both. Based on a true story…definitely one to check out. Don’t become the dude that plays the dude that plays another dude ✌🏾 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Saccharine: After trying a bizarre weight loss craze involving human ashes, a medical student is haunted by the ghost of the person she's consuming. A disturbing, thought provoking take on body image and eating disorders, building to a bleak ending which leaves you with plenty to ponder. Liked this 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Hey everyone! I’ve made my annual FrightFest spreadsheet and thought I’d share it again! I've added runtimes this year plus two Clashfinder sheets: one with intro/Q&A timings and one without (depending on your preference) Hope it helps! docs.google.com/spreadsheets...docs.google.comFrightFest 2026 Schedule 050
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 16/07/2026FrightFest programme reveal day🙌🏾 Hyped for this lineup!! That main screen looks tasty and some gems in the Discovery screens 🤩 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 10/07/2026Hold the Fort: After moving to the suburbs, a young couple finds themselves battling monsters from hell. Silly, slapstick, and in your face cheesy, it's packed with gory fun, kamikaze bats, kung fu spirits, zombies, and plenty of fun moments. An enjoyable horror comedy 040
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Forbidden Fruits: It starts off feeling cliché, but soon shifts into an absurd horror comedy mixing Mean Girls, The Craft and Heathers. The sharp dialogue and wild horror are fun, but imo it's ultimately too paint by numbers, lacking the depth and bite of its inspirations 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 08/07/2026Evil Dead Burn: Brutal, relentlessly violent and good blood soaked gory fun! Great to talk to stars Souhelia Yacoub and Hunter Doohan and director Sébastien Vaniček #EvilDeadBurn 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Dead Lover: A quirky, low budget Frankenstein riff that's delightfully weird. Poetic dialogue and improv heavy, the theatrical style won't be for everyone, but its creativity, charm, horror, dark comedy, and surprisingly heartfelt storyline made it a memorable viewing experience! 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 28/06/2026Lowlifes: A family road trip in an RV takes a deadly turn after picking up two strangers. Questionable decisions lead to blood being spilled and bodies piling up. Bloody, gory, twisted, and packed with surprises, this Tubi Original is a fun ride. I'd happily watch a sequel 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 28/06/2026Carolina Caroline: Dinner in America's steamier, less quirky cousin. Kyle Gallner is charming as a con man, while Samara Weaving shines as his partner on the run. Mellow intensity and frantic thrills, mixing Bonnie & Clyde and True Romance into a wildly enjoyable cocktail! 🙌🏾 040
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 10/06/2026Exit 8: Delivers a decent message with some genuinely harrowing moments. It could've gone a bit gnarlier, but it's unsettling enough to make you question life and contemplate your next move. A reflective walk afterwards is highly recommended✌🏾 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 07/06/2026Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is a beautiful, campy and sensual watch. It brilliantly satirises and strips down the slasher genre while exploring coming of age themes and queer identity. The kills are gloriously gory, and Jane Schoenbrun delivers another absorbing story! 030
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 06/06/2026En route to SXSW London for one hell of a double bill tonight! Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasa followed by Leviticus 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 02/06/2026The Plague took me back to being 7, surrounded by kids repeatedly chanting "paki" in my face at break time. It felt like that same relentless thud of bullying. Bullies are scum, "boys will be boys" is nonsense, and you either find a way through or you don't. This film captures it all. 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Passenger: Strong start but gets hampered in establishing lore and characters that aren’t compelling enough to care for. With some effective scares and a truly chilling villain, there’s a solid film buried here, but it loses 'drive' after the first act and struggles thereafter 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 25/05/2026The Secret Agent: A gripping, bizarre political thriller set in 1977 Brazil. Kleber Mendonça Filho blends tension, dark humour and grindhouse chaos into a visually stunning, ambitious film with an outstanding score. It starts slow and once you get on it's wavelength, it builds to a fantastic finale 020
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Rewatching True Romance because it's a gem of a movie and easily one of the best films 🙌🏾 000
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 20/05/2026Enjoyed Heresy. Creepy, eerie folk horror steeped in dread, with gorgeous cinematography and a great creature design. At just over an hour it skips the slow burn and ramps up the unease, following a young woman fleeing religious oppression for the dark forces in the woods. Go check it out on Shudder 050
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Top tier dadcore. A new sheriff arrives in a small town where something feels deeply off and Bob Odenkirk shines as the reluctant hero. Don't worry about the plot, just sit back and enjoy the action, the deadpan comedy and the savage kills 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 18/05/2026The messed up films continue...Funny Games. Minimalist, brutal, and deeply unsettling. Plenty of home invasion films have come since but few feel this raw or psychologically devastating and the 4th wall breaks just taunt you. This with the original Speak No Evil, a crushing double bill. 120
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 17/05/2026Cure is a masterpiece of psychological horror. Following a detective investigating a series of murders, it delivers a slow, methodical sense of dread that looks as the darkness beneath everyday life. It lingers in the brain long after the credits roll. (Another first watch btw) 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 15/05/2026Been an interesting last four watched @letterboxd 🙈 030
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 13/05/2026So the "wtf movies" continue...and tonight it was Possession. Man what a visceral attack on the senses in every way. Thought this was absolutely brilliant, equal measure depressing, bleak, yet bold in what it had to say (Another film on the list that I never got round to seeing 🤷🏾) 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 12/05/2026After last night's messed up film, tonight it was another wild one...Lars Von Trier's Antichrist. Depressing, morbid, creative and powerful. Sometimes you feel nothing so you want to feel something. Dug this a (w)hole lot...pun intended 030
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 11/05/2026Trauma by Lucio A Rojas. A messed up way to ruin my Sunday night...What in The Serbian Film did I just put myself through?! This was all kinds of deplorably extreme, that opening sequence was brutally disturbing 000
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Obsession is brilliantly grim and deeply messed up. By the end you’re left thinking, what the hell did I just watch? Its blend of bleak comedy, raw horror, and striking violence is masterfully handled. A wild ride, with Inde Navarrette giving a immense performance #ObsessionMovie 040
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 01/05/2026The Drama: Excruciatingly tense and brilliantly funny! Alana Haim's character is the anchor being of everything. Life's nothing without a little chaos to make it interesting. Also as someone who talks a lot, I can see myself getting into some situations! Go into this blind, it goes places 000
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Really liked Hokum! A troubled writer, a haunted old hotel, and plenty of eerie, edge of your seat scares. Another chilling, bonafide horror from Damian McCarthy, following Caveat and Oddity. 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 26/04/2026Michael was phenomenal. The film captures the emotional power of his music and his unmatched influence. It explores his difficult childhood and relationship with his father with depth. Every song had me singing (and dancing) like being there. A heartfelt tribute to his genius. 🙌🏾 000
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 24/04/2026Relay is a slick, intelligent thriller exploring whistleblowers, hush money and shadowy brokers. Original and gripping for most of its runtime, with strong performances from Riz Ahmed and Lily James. The final sequence falls apart for me, but it’s still a highly watchable film 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 17/04/2026Last Swim is a bittersweet coming of age drama about Ziba, an aspiring astrophysicist celebrating her A Level results with friends, while hiding a life altering secret. Balancing carefree moments with quiet emotion, it’s a poignant look at youth, friendship, and unspoken fears. Brilliant! 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 17/04/2026Touch Me is a surreal, unapologetic horror exploring trauma, addiction, and codependency, and an unconventional polyamorous relationship involving an alien. Not for everyone, but its bold visuals make it a unique ride. Addison Heimann builds on Hypochondriac here , which I loved btw✌🏾 010
Mal Jutley @maljutley.bsky.social · 16/04/2026Undertone is a cleverly crafted, slow burn horror where a paranormal podcaster is haunted by chilling recordings. The grief heavy build occasionally lingers, but the mounting tension grips throughout, with one hell of a climax, that final sequence did not hold back 030
