Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Got a relatively calm day, fixed several things in mellow, out in github.com/Malinskiy/me... 010
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 21/08/2026New emu version: - live view for multiple concurrent devices - better tooling for foldables with hinge overlay support - high refresh rates support (120hz?) - copying network req/res bodies - huge perf optimizations and more. Check out the blog post for more: blog.marathonlabs.io/blog/emu-mul... 001
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 30/07/2026This required graphical pipeline optimization to handle the frames efficiently with high framerates. I also tried to implement the zero-copy rendering which improved the feel of the UI significantly especially on desktop nvidia GPU, but it has too many tradeoffs 000
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Multi-device is coming soon to emu. Lots of technical hoops along the way, but opens up the use-cases such as paired wearable devices or multiple agents working with different devices concurrently 100
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 17/07/2026For the past 10 days I've been dogfooding emu by building a native @jellyfin.org music client for android blog.marathonlabs.io/blog/dogfood... 000
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Small details make the experience so much better. Had fun choosing interpolators 020
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 11/07/2026I'm dogfooding emu: building a native jellyfin client for music. One of the key features I need is android auto integration. After trying to figure out how to even do this locally, I understand why most apps don't have support for android auto. But now there's a better way 020
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 06/07/2026There is no such thing as AI slop. You either don't have taste and/or too lazy to iterate to make it better 000
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 26/06/2026This is what ~20hr of real-life flaky Android Espresso tests packed into 15min looks like. up to 200 devices per run, no infrastructure maintenance. Just build the artifacts and get results for each PR/commit/local change before finishing your lunch 000
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 25/06/2026A big part of day to day job for mobile SWEs and SDETs is installing applications and managing permissions. With emu you can easily test your app under different conditions i.e. what happens if the user revokes notification permission 000
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 20/06/2026MCP integration is not an important part. Domain-specific knowledge implemented as code is. MCP or GUI is just a view onto the same code, if it is useful then MCP/GUI is useful 020
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 18/06/2026It's a companion app I wrote around the official emulator. here you go: emu.marathonlabs.io?utm_source=b...emu.marathonlabs.ioEmu — Android Emulator CompanionFast, cross-platform, no bloat. The way tools are supposed to be. 010
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 18/06/2026One of the usual problems when dealing with bugs is not recording screen at the right moment. Emu records everything you do including semantically, so capturing bugs is just one button away. Examine screen or actions later, send it to colleagues. And LLM can capture these too. And reproduce issues 131
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 17/06/2026What is a native desktop app? Is it something that has to use specific UI framework or just be natively compiled? If I don't use WinUI/SwiftUI is the app still native or half native? The distinction is very clear on mobile but on desktop it's a different story 021
Anton Malinski @malinskiy.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Several years ago I got frustrated with Android's emulator tooling — the UX felt stuck in 2015 while everything else moved forward. so I built emu emu.marathonlabs.io?utm_source=b... 030
