Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Fun fact: 'neat wee weird guys' is the collective term for Scottish politics nerds. [hope you're having an awesome break!] 000
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 30/09/2026And there was me ready to ask if it still counted as Red October if the Phillies were out before the end of September. More fool me. Top work in turning that around, and credit to Don for sticking with Sanchez and Painter. Lets go win tomorrow too! 030
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Immediately the difference between Clarke and Big Seb is apparent. Clarke would have stuck on four defenders at this point to avoid losing more goals. Seb reckons we might as well have a go, and run at them. And while we might lose another couple of goals, I'd much rather this approach. 000
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Reader, it was the only positive we saw tonight. 000
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 29/09/2026That was exactly the same thing I messaged my dad and brother. 010
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 29/09/2026What's the best thing about Scotland playing Switzerland tonight...? Well, their flag is a big plus. 001
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Obviously Pogacar is a generational talent and incredible at what he does... but cycle races when he isn't there are just much more exciting. What a World Championship race, constantly changing stories and possibilities... equally great and terrible tactics, a challenging parcours and a worthy win. 030
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Also... given how 'pinstipey' the US kit is... it almost looks like a trans pride flag! 110
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 27/09/2026As usual, European teams fought amongst themselves like ferrets in a sack. France and Belgium always have the talent, but just make a mess of things. Jorgensen just managed the whole thing beautifully in the chase group 010
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Told the boys it was an exciting new era for watching Scotland... but they knew it was optimistic to think the new boss would be able to find someone to score goals. Decent second half, and some tidy stuff at times, but we're still a pretty frustrating side to watch 010
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Statistics have never been my strong suit, but 49.99% would thus also be above average intelligence... but I can't imagine the bar is particularly high! 110
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 21/09/2026As someone that teaches politics... increasingly of the view that public opinion makes a mockery of the concept of 'democracy'. The voice of the people? The people know nothing, Jon Snow. 101
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Proper tiny dick energy from the Tesla driver that zoomed up behind me in a 30mph zone, gesticulating wildly for me to get out of the way so he could move two cars further up the queue. Imagine having the temerity to drive at the speed limit in a built up area? 021
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/09/2026The irony of the juxtaposition: 'Prime Minister Andy Burnham says "hatred and fear did not have the last word on 9/11". Writing on X this morning...' Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Pretty amazing cell service he's getting from under a pile of rubble that firemen are pulling him out of. 010
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Sounds familiar to... well, basically everyone working in UK universities. 020
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 02/09/2026After a couple of months of peace, the house was too quiet with no furry pal, so today we took two kittens home. A non-stop ball of relentless energy that does everything at 100mph, and a quiet, more tentative observer that thinks before he leaps. So, of course, they are called Hamilton and Burr. 050

Reposted by Dr Malcolm HarveyKevin M. Kruse @kevinmkruse.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Again, this is newsworthy, but only because it shows (1) the deeply unpopular President of the United States is badly out of touch with the actual concerns of voters and (2) he is also quite fucking insane. 1141989445
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 25/08/2026I can probably think of about 10 worse off the top of head. Rafael Scheidt. Karl Muggleton. Vasillas Barkas. 100
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Scottish football is unrivalled in its shambolic European collapses. 020
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 23/08/2026The Phillies don't know when they're beaten. This was a ridiculous finish. 030
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Always a good idea. That way, meeting the expectations is much easier to achieve! 100
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 21/08/2026You're right, of course. But don't hold your breath that parties will be able to do this either. 101

Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 17/08/2026If anyone ever mentions Loch Lomond in my company, I tell them this fact, and no one ever believes me until they fact check it. 121
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 13/08/2026I and countless others can tell you remarkably similar stories from other institutions as well, not least about managers being misleading about their intentions. It seems this is a pre-requisite to be a manager at a HE institution. Solidarity to your friends at Exeter and elsewhere. 0201
Reposted by Dr Malcolm HarveyMaria Sobolewska @profsob.bsky.social · 03/08/2026We will- I have no doubt- look back at this as one of the greatest scandals of our time. It he killing of the golden goose for the UK. A destruction of one of the most profitable and successful sectors.Yet, for now all politicians have their head in the sand on this one… A critically important read. 410344
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I've had a job in HE for 10 years, and it has gotten rapidly worse each year. Politicians seem happy to let it happen though, which is a sign of where we are. 020
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Change the name of the institution and the vampire consultants and this is the same story at any number of different institutions. A national scandal. 55120
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Seems like the Nations Championship has caught some of this too. No one bothering kicking penalties, games routinely having 10 to 12 tries. Its great fun. 010
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Football is much better when neither side can defend well. Ten goals should be the norm. 173
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Looks like France have put Steve Clarke in charge for the Bronze match. Only explanation for how bad they've been. 100
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 18/07/2026I think the officials collectively got the final decision incorrect though. I think the ball was grounded before the touchline and there wasn't sufficient evidence to overturn the on pitch decision. But even if not, the tackle was very high, and you've definitely seen that given. Difficult call. 100
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 18/07/2026To be fair to Angus Gardner, he had a really good game. He didn't want to be the centre of attention but the players were uncontrollable for the most part. He'll never have used his yellow card as often. Just a bonkers game. 110
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Well, Argentina v England part II this week was... something. Argies wearing a 1986 Hand of God replica, loads of flare ups, a bucket load of yellow cards, and a last minute potential equalizing try ruled out by the TMO to howls of protest from players and crowd. Bonkers. 130
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Harsh on Pickford, but the back 4 are even shakier than Hanley and McKenna... 030
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Proper sucker punch though: England have had all the ball, Norway have probably touched it twice in the England box. 000
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026"He never meant that." Shades of Ronaldinho lobbing Seaman from Lee Dixon there... 110
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Have I spent the day watching all six of the Nations Championship (🇳🇿v🇮🇹, 🇦🇺v🇫🇷, 🇯🇵v🍀, 🇫🇯v🏴, 🇿🇦v🏴, 🇦🇷v🏴) matches? Well... yes. Am I also considering watching the World Cup QF (🇳🇴v🏴) at 10pm? Also yes. Sorry Mrs H. Thanks @itvsport.bsky.social! 000
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026As impressive as the 47 points last week in Argentina was, the four tries in defeat here, and going toe to toe with the World Champions at altitude is probably even better. South Africa are the best side in the world for a reason, and we made them work for the win. 000
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Three missed tackles on Jesse Kriel brings us back to earth. 100
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Welp. A fourth try and a BP for Scotland *in Pretoria*. Two tries down to level at half time. Three tries conceded in the second half, two back, and ripping through the South African midfield in the final 15 mins. Where did this come from? 100
Dr Malcolm Harvey @malch.bsky.social · 11/07/2026How are South Africa so prone to such massive gaps in midfield? Wild to see them make such lapses. 000
