in Eastern Europe, WWII ended with the fall of russian occupation in the 1990s. in Moscow, WWII is still the state religion. but it isn’t memory — it’s a weapon. and it’s still being used as an engine for every “liberation,” every genocide the Kremlin justifies today

the Kyiv Pride march today is led by Ukrainian queer soldiers and vets carrying pictures and names of queer Ukrainian heroes killed while fighting homophobic russian empire. Ukraine fights for a better, dignified future for all of us.

recently, this team evacuated dozens of horses from frontline areas in the Zaporizhzhia region, some of whom they adopted. unfortunately, russian culture killed one of these evacuated horses in yesterday's attack with guided bombs

there’s definitely a gap between how Ukrainians understand their responsibilities of living in a democracy and the rest of the Free World. i increasingly believe that those democratic societies attempting to narrow this gap will also be the ones surviving in the coming decade.
