Hey media - Referring self-described misogynist pimp and child pornographer Andrew Tate a "social media influencer" is like referring to Ed Gehn a "BBQ aficionado".

Derrick Van Orden is so drunk in this video, I had to ask my AA sponsor if me watching it is considered a relapse.

Unfortunately if it happened in Wisconsin, the word is "misdemeanor".

Agreed. Prosecute the criminals. Institute systemic change to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Well, the population of Wyoming is less than 600,000. I'd have added "and two representatives per district", but bsky won't give me more characters per post.

Add instituting the Wyoming Rule - Expand the size of the House. Everyone gets 1 rep for each multiple of the smallest state (Wyoming). Evens out the undue power of small states in the House & the Electoral College. Expand SCOTUS to # of districts (13). National ranked choice voting.

Banning student walkouts? Is mandatory attendance at conservative events next?

I had a class where the students banded together: "none of us are doing the work, you can't fail all of us". Oh. Yes. I. Can. Another class, a decade later, did the same thing. When administrators leaned on me - "we have a retention crisis" - that's when I heard retirement's siren song.

But still NYTimes being NYTimes. 'But there may be political latitude for it with his base. “There is an element of American politics..., particularly within the G.O.P., that likes this style of leadership... What can be more anti-establishment than someone who is willing to be out of control?”'

Yes he did. That doesn't change that he's not MAGA. We had two good candidates for mayor. Everyone should be so lucky, for every race up and down the ballot.

I know them both, they both live within 3 blocks of me. Dan Toland might be a Republican, but you wouldn't know by talking to him. He's definitely not MAGA. He's been extremely nonpartisan.

As a resident of River Falls who knows both Alison Page and Dan Toland - Dan is not MAGA. He's pretty nonpartisan. Ms. Page has run for office in the past as a Dem. I could recommend either of them.

Give us Cheeseheads some credit. In the previous 3 state supreme court elections, the liberal won by +10. The last time a conservative won was 2019, and that was by 6000 votes (0.5%).

As a resident of River Falls, WI who knows both Alison Page (my neighbor) and Dan Toland, the incumbent- Dan's not MAGA. He's routinely defended the city's flying the Pride flag in June. He got slammed 'cuz the local Republican party endorsed him because Ms. Page is a Democrat.

I had a student once come to me and say, "Dr. ***, you need to change your FB settings. Everyone can see everything you write." I replied - "That's intentional. I don't say anything online if I'd be embarrassed to say it publicly." Him - "Oh - I suppose that works..."

Just to be clear - my comment was meant to highlight the amount of money being handed out in our capitalistic prison-industrial complex.

Oh I completely agree - and the basic requirements for jails are low. My comment was meant to highlight the high number of $$$$ at stake in the private incarceration industry. My apologies that texts never seem to deliver the level of sarcasm intended.

Integrity is the only thing that you take with you to the grave. It cannot be taken from you. It cannot be stolen from you. But you can sell it, or give it away. Thanks to Anderson Cooper for realizing this.

The number is reasonable*. That's what my county had to pay nearly a decade ago to house jail prisoners offsite when our jail was too small. *OK, not "reasonable", but approximates the going market rate. We can't expect reasonable to be compatible with late stage capitalism.

This is M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy, or more correctly M51a and M51b. It is 31 million lightyears away from Earth. You'll notice several other more distant galaxies in the picture. Picture(s) taken from my backyard here in River Falls WI, a total of several hours of accumulation.

Meantime, the vast cosmos doesn't care. Two galaxies are in the process of merging, moving back and forth through each other over the course of hundreds of millions of years, reforming a new galaxy by expelling thousands (millions?) of their stars into the void.

I did just that, after Scott Walker. The only thing I would suggest is this - first, talk to the person you want to run against. You might find that they’re on your side. And/or, they’ve been waiting for someone to pass the mantle to. Many local electeds I know aren’t in it for their own power.

Not *just* Reagan. Let's remember that he was a racist extremist, giving a speech in Mississippi extolling the virtues of "state's rights". For you young folk, that's dog whistle for "let's keep the n***ers down". The rot comes from the modern Republican party, which followed him and his extremism.

"No, you may not look at my phone. No, you may not look at my tablet. I want to talk to my lawyer." Although it is within my First Amendment rights, I suppose it is not advisable to ask my questioners "did you get this job after you were fired as a mall cop".
