Hey #EpithetErased fans! If you're going to Anime Expo this year, I'll be doing signings at the Oceanveil booth! While I'm there, I'll also be selling the Sylvie print I commissioned a while back! I don't do signings often, so if you're going & want one make sure to stop by!

Another Nukitashi episode is out today and... A.) @majinzelpher.bsky.social recorded his lines for *that* scene before me, and so I died multiple times during my session. B.) This is the one where @manatjohnson.bsky.social gave the world's most perfect line delivery and I also died multiple times.

Also gotta be clear. Not saying you shouldn't care about your quality! Internet has done a lot for creatives and entrepreneurs. I'm just sad cause it feels I can't find the people who AREN'T. Those who posted a video specifically for just them or their friends. I liked coming across those.

040

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 05/12/2025

Maybe I'm too old, but for me the internet was a place where you DIDN'T care about production quality. You posted what you liked, you found your people, and you made each other smile. Now everything is about successfully playing an algorithm and monetization. That just sucks.

Just made myself feel devastated with the fact I will never hear people post videos with horrible mic quality because of AI voices. Some of my favorite videos ever unironically are people posting about their passion with no care about their audio. It was great. Really gonna miss that.

Anime will hit you with a title like "No Matter What, We Have to Go BACK!! Because They Forgot my Fries🍟🍟" and it'll be the best show you ever watch but you're unable to explain why.

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 22/12/2024

Sonic 3 was really good! I don't know if I can really put all my thoughts down well, but watching the first 2 movies was definitely a good call I think. I'd recommend anyone planning to see the third movie to do the same. I'm sure I'll break down my thoughts later when I figure them out.

120

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

I think it's probably a very smart decision to just focus on Shadow for the next film. Asking a lot to flesh out Tails & Knuckles all in one film, and while one shined a LOT, another was half-baked imo.

020

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Sonic 2 is easily an 8/10 for me. Easily better than the first. Still got gripes with how constrained Tails was. Think if they had an extra 20-30 minutes of ups & downs tracking down the compass to let him breathe, it'd fix everything. Everything else I can't complain too much. Excited for Sonic 3!

120

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

I always really liked how disappointed Sonic is at Eggman. Knowing there is NOTHING he can do to win him over. He'll always just be a rotten egg.

010

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

I do hope the third movie gives lots of good character moments for Tails & Knuckles. I know there's gonna be a lot of attention on Sonic vs Shadow and for good reason, but the ending fight for this movie I thought was very well done. Just hope that it has moments for each character to shine.

110

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

10/10 way to close the 2nd act. Everything landed for me. The fight, Robotnik's laugh. The "Chaos is Power" line. Sonic & Knuckles reconciling. All REALLY good. I'll even concede to Tails saying "Only Sonic the Hedgehog needs rescuing THIS much" as a character builder for his confidence. Great stuff

110

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Hearing him say "Gotta go fast" here still takes me out a bit, and definitely something I was dreading after how much I liked it in the first movie, but I'm sure it made a lot of people happy. I'm fine if it wasn't for me.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

I can respect the complaints that the rescuing Sonic & Tails bit took way too long. It absolutely does feel that way even on second watch, but it definitely isn't experience ruining.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

I would say this was a wasted opportunity to not have Rachel do an Akira slide on the golf cart, but with the hindsight of Shadow in the next movie it makes sense.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

WALTERS: Is something bothering you Agent? RANDALL: I just feel a little guilty about what I did to Rachel, sir. WALTERS: Ah! Don't worry about it! We'll just send her a gift card I wish I had the fucking confidence in Olive Garden that Walters does where I thought a gift card fixed every problem

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Alright yeah, Commander Walters is THE best character in the franchise and it's not even fucking close. I can not fucking WAIT to what kind of WEIRD shit he does in the third movie.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

It's the little things again. It's really cool seeing the plane at what first looks like an easter egg at the wedding only for Tails to pilot the same plane later. Good shit.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Actually really liked the parallels of Tom's words to Sonic

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

His quips are so fucking annoy in the BEST way. Another complaint I heard is how cringy all his references are, but honestly, it's a great way to illustrate his character. He's such an rascal in every other media, I think the pop culture insults are a good translation to a movie version of him.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

ALSO THIS ANIMATED PART WAS SICK. Was also fine by me how they played around with the lore for emeralds.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Someone on the team did this ending part PERFECTLY tho, 10/10

110

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Also the bar scene ain't all that bad here, but it sure ain't great. Probably just an in movie reason to get some Sonic & Tails dancing for promotional stuff and not much else. May also contribute a bit to the Tails problem since that's where his story got mostly crammed.

110

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

I think I remember why I didn't like Tails as much. If I remember correctly, they bottle all of his character development in the first 10 minutes of the second act and doesn't change much at all afterwards. I'll see if that holds or not.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Yeah on second watch, the Hawaii scenes absolutely do not take up THAT much time. And I know I'm going slow on the watch to post my thoughts too. They are also funny in their own right. I definitely was in the camp of not liking them before, and honestly surprised that I felt that way.

110

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

So do you guys think it's Gerald or Shadow who flosses in the 3rd movie? My sleeper guess pick is Stone.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Oh I remember NOT being able to say I liked Tails' characterization as a whole tho. Gonna try to give it another chance as the movie goes on.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Unapologetic use of powers. Just has fun doing it. But all in the spirit of protecting others and making them smile. Yeah I never understood the argument of this version of Sonic not being authentic. This shit goooood.

120

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Still small things, but also nice how the first movie had Tom and Sonic JOKE about what chili dogs does to his stomach, just for Sonic to use it in his ploy to not be discovered he's off being a vigilante. EVEN IF it is a dumb FART joke at the end of the day.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Such a small thing, but writing wise I like the quick establishment Sonic can't swim and is DEATHLY afraid of drowning, especially with the scenes later in the movie.

100

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

I'll give ya that. I think, if used right, it can be a REALLY cool "power" set piece. Especially if they use it in ways like, let's say, Sonic having to PROTECT those who don't have that speed, and are, in essence, FROZEN (i.e. Tom), from someone who does (i.e. Shadow or Knuckles).

000

Zack Maher @majinzelpher.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Sonic unapologetically using his speed while still greeting friends, and big wide shots like him traversing a whole mountain with ease gives me big Sonic X vibes in the right ways if that makes sense. Sonic's scenes and dialogue in both these movies are still so true to him, even if it's different.
