Thank you for this! I am going to come into the school year planning for this situation so if it occurs again, I will be prepared. Thank you so much for helping me! Blessings!

Thank you so much for this information. In fact, we (the teachers) did everything that you described, manifestation meeting, talking to the parent, gathering data -- nothing happened. This is the reason why I am asking is there anything else that can be done?

Question: what plan can I implement that will support an alternative placement for this student due to excessive disruptive behaviors? Any manifestation meeting finds that his behavior is a symptom of his disability, therefore, he essentially is sent back to class with no consequences. Thoughts?

I have a question for the BlueSky friends and family...There is a student in special education that will blatantly tell his teachers (me included) that all of his behavior is covered by his IEP (ADHD diagnosis) therefore any discipline referral does not count because he will always be back to class.

"How would you start my car?" The classmate said, "Too easy!" "All you have to do is place your foot on the brake pedal and press the button!" Gosh! Have we drifted so far that the kids only know about push button starts on a car? @edusky.bsky.social @blackedusky.bsky.social

So yesterday in my study hall class, I had two students talking about driving. One student had a manual drive (stick shift) and he was talking to the other student about driving a car with a manual drive. To challenge his classmate who said that he could drive anything, he asked him ....

Yes...That has been the conversation that we have had as a teacher group...but we do not want to be called up in a lawsuit because a student did not get their required assistance because of student numbers! Why does it have to be so hard?!

The students have one 40-minute class period with a special educator each school day (200 minutes per week) . All of their other classes are out classes.

How would she word the sentence.... My classroom is in non-compliance with Special Education protocols...or something like that?

She said she has asked for help, but many other teachers are experiencing the same situation. I also shared my concern that having a majority of students with IEPs in one classroom could raise legal and equity issues for the school. What do you think?

Dr. Lucia Kay Jacobs @majesticeducator.bsky.social · 20/03/2026
I need an honest opinion.....A friend of mine is a teacher with 15 out of 20 students in her class having IEPs. I told her she should have additional support in the classroom because that is a high number of students needing specialized services. (Continued)

How many “sudden” academic crises were actually predictable? If the patterns were documented, why weren’t they discussed? At what point does silence become a systemic decision rather than an oversight?

Schools see patterns forming long before families do. When concerns aren’t shared early, support gets delayed. Proactive conversations create partnership, not panic. What early indicators should schools communicate before problems escalate?

“We didn’t want to alarm you” is common—but information empowers. Withholding patterns doesn’t reduce anxiety; it postpones preparation. Families deserve trends, not just outcomes. What would you want to know if it were your child?

Protecting feelings by delaying information can unintentionally delay solutions. Families deserve clarity about patterns, not just final results. If you could change one thing about how schools share concerns, what would it be?

Educators often see patterns long before they’re formally documented. Waiting to share concerns doesn’t make conversations easier—it makes support harder to access. What questions should families be encouraged to ask sooner rather than later? #TransparencyMatters

Many interventions begin after a pattern is established — not when it first appears. Early conversations can change outcomes. What would meaningful early communication from schools look like to you? #PreventionOverReaction

“Everything is fine” can sometimes mean “nothing has been addressed yet.” Silence isn’t reassurance — clarity is. What questions should families feel empowered to ask every grading period? #AskEarlier

Educators know this—but families are rarely told: A student’s academic or behavioral trajectory often becomes visible long before it’s documented. Waiting doesn’t make it kinder. It makes it costlier. What questions do you think families should be encouraged to ask earlier? #Transparencymatters

Dr. Lucia Kay Jacobs @majesticeducator.bsky.social · 07/02/2026
Here’s a hard truth: Not all school communication is designed for clarity. Some of it is designed for compliance. Transparency isn’t “rocking the boat.” It’s protecting the child on the boat. Have you ever felt like you were getting information too late? Yes or no—and why? #Transparencymatters

Here’s something else parents are rarely told: By the time schools sound the alarm, the problem often isn’t new—it’s just finally unavoidable. Early intervention doesn’t fail students. Silence does. What do you wish you had known earlier about your child’s education? #Transparencymatters

This practice has existed for years. It protects systems, not students. Transparency is not disloyalty. It is advocacy. Students deserve adults who tell the truth early enough for it to matter. This is why transparent teacher–family partnerships matter. #TransparencyMatters

Here’s something parents are rarely told: In some situations, schools know exactly what trajectory a student is on—and still choose not to say it out loud. Information is filtered, delayed, or minimized until consequences become unavoidable.
