16.09.1942|The Germans conudcted the liquidation of the labour camp in Pustków near Dębica. Around 1,800 Jews were deemed “unfit for labour” and deported to the SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec killing centre. Around 200 selected craftsmen were taken to the labour camp in Mielec. #Holocaust

01.09.1896|Polish Jewish man Albert (Abe) Federgrün was born in Kraków. He lived in Nowy Targ and Kraków, and was a factory and warehouse worker. In August 1942 he was deported from Wieliczka to the German Nazi death camp SS-Sonderkommando Belzec and murdered in the gas chambers.

01.09.1939|The German forces began the offensive on Poland. On September 17 the Red Army invaded the Polish territory from the east. The joint German-Soviet aggression initiated World War II – the largest military conflict in the history of mankind.

13.08.1943|100 inmates (mostly Poles) were transferred to #Majdanek from the Gestapo prison at the Lublin castle. Among them there Tadeusz Czajka and Mikołaj Caban, Polish Home Army resistance members. Both of them later escaped from the camp through the sewers.

13.08.2002|Chaim Korenfeld passed away in São Paulo, Brazil. He was deported to the German death camp SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor on 28 April 1943. Selected for labour he worked at woodcutting in the Waldkommando. He escaped from the forest in July 43’ and survived the #Holocaust.

11.08.1943|Chief SS physician (Lagerarzt) at #Majdanek addressed the camp administration office (Verwaltung), demanding the increased supply of Zyklon B used for “disinfection of both the male and female sections of the camp.” It was also used for the purpose of mass murder in the gas chambers.

10.08.1942|The beginning of the Grossaktion in Lviv. That day Salem Klinger and his wife, Frida Silberman were deported to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec and murdered in the gas chambers. They had four children: Dora, Stella, Lorenc and Józef.

07.08.1942|Around 1,500 Jews from Włodawa were taken to the nearby SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor extermination camp. The victims included over a hundred children, the local rabbi 📷Mendel Morgensztern who refused to abandon the kids, and many elders caught in a round-up. #Holocaust

05.08.1944|Polish Home Army soldiers from the Grey Ranks "Zośka" Battalion captured the so-called Gęsiówka. Officially named Konzentrationslager Warschau it was a sub-camp of Majdanek from May 1944. Warsaw Insurgents liberated several hundred Jewish prisoners that day. Most of them joined the fight.

04.08.1942|6,000 Jews from Sambor, Chyrów, Felsztyn, Stary Sambor and Strzyłki were deported to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. The train briefly stopped in Lviv where 600 deportees were selected for work and taken to the Janowska concentration camp.

03.08.1942|The third and the final transport of Jewish victims was sent from the ghetto in Przemyśl to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. Around 13,000 Jews were deported from Przemyśl at the turn of July and August 1942. Among them there was Lorka Schneebaum.

29.07.1942|German chemical company TESTA confirmed the reception of order for 9,000 kg of Zyklon B. The gas supply was purchased by📷Hans Perschon on behalf of KGL Lublin Vervaltung (camp administration). Perschon was one of the SS-men who operated the gas chambers at #Majdanek.

28.07.1944|The final transport of prisoners evacuated from #Majdanek arrived at #Auschwitz. From over 1,000 inmates only 837 reached their destination due to escapes & executions. Those who entered the gates of Auschwitz included Poles, Germans, Belgians, Norwegians and 385 Jews.

24.07.1873|German Jew Nathan Katz was born in Bodenfelde. When Hitler rose to power he moved with his family to Düsseldorf. After Kristallnacht they fled to the Netherlands. Nathan was arrested, deported to SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor and murdered in the gas chamber on 23.07.1943.

24.07.1944| The Red Army troops entered the nearly empty #Majdanek grounds. At field II, they found Soviet invalids – former POWs many of whom had defected to the German side. They became a symbol of the supposed liberation, though they did not gain freedom.

23.07.1943|28 prisoners of the Waldkommando, including Zyndel Honigman, Chaim Korenfeld, Abraham Wang, and 📷Salomon (Szlomo) Podchlebnik, escaped from #Sobibór. They killed the guard assigned to their woodcutting group working in the forest. Though many were captured, a few fugitives survived WWII.

22.07.1944|Final liquidation of KL Lublin. SS-men took the last remaining prisoners on a march to #Auschwitz. The crematorium was set on fire, the garrison members were burning and burying the documents to conceal the crimes. In the afternoon, #Majdanek ceased its functioning.

21.07.1944|The last mass execution took place at #Majdanek. Several hundred inmates of the Gestapo prison at the Lublin castle were shot in ditches next to the crematorium building. Most of them were Poles. Those victims were never registered in the camp files.📷Soviet troops inspect execution site.

20.07.1941|During his visit to Lublin Heinrich Himmler ordered the creation of #Majdanek on the eastern outskirts of the city. The camp was meant to accommodate 25-50k prisoners - Soviet POWs, who would be exploited at the workshops, factories, enterprises, and construction sites of the SS.

17.07.1919|Eva-Brigitte Marum was born in Karlsruhe. In 1934 she emigrated from Germany to France. Caught in a street round-up in January 1943 she was later deported from Drancy to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando Sobibor. Eva was murdered in the gas chambers on 30.03.1943.

17.07.1942| Around 1800 Jews were deported from Dąbrowa Tarnowska to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. They were herded into 26 freight cars and then murdered in the gas chambers just after their arrival. #Holocaust

16.07.1943|Polish man Feliks Cieplikiewicz prisoner no. 6134 died at the Majdanek concentration camp. He lived at the Grabowica village (Zamość region) and worked as a tinman. Germans arrested him and sent him to KL Lublin on 7 July in retaliation for the local partisan activity.

15.07.1942|Around 50 Soviet POWs were executed at #Majdanek. They decided not to participate in the mass escape, which took place the day before. They were all shot at the prisoner field II in order to mask the incompetence of the camp garrison and the commandant 📷Karl Otto Koch.

14.07.1942|The largest escape in the history of the #Majdanek concentration camp took place. 86 Soviet POWs breached the barbed-wired fence of field II and broke out of the camp. Only two of them were shot and despite the full-scale pursuit the remaining ones were never captured.

08.07.1943|Dutch tinman, Hendrik Jacobs was registered at #Majdanek as prisoner no. 75. He was born on 21.02.1909 in Amsterdam. In spring 1944 he was transferred to #Natzweiler, in September to #Dachau. He was eventually liberated from Dachau’s Allach subcamp and survived WWII.

07.07.1942| The SS commenced the liquidation of the ghetto in Rzeszów. Nearly 50 victims were shot en route to the train station and nearly 200 more inside the ghetto. Transport of ca. 4,000 Jews departed that day to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec.

Early July 1942| #Majdanek authorities reported to the SS Construction Office (Zentralbauleitung) in Lublin that the camp sentry towers were at 80% completion. All 8,8m watchtowers were erected and equipped with searchlights. 8 had full covering, 10 had a covered room on top.

02.07.1943|The German chemical company Tesch & Stabenow (TESTA) informed the administrative offices of KL Lublin (#Majdanek) that they are unable to set a precise deadline for the next shipment of Zyklon B. The given reason was the producer’s being overwhelmed with orders.

01.07.1942|Polish man Antoni Bielas was arrested by the German functionaries in Częstochowa. In January 1943 he was transferred to Majdanek and registered as prisoner no. 9142. He remained at the camp until his evacuation to KL Gross-Rosen in April 1944 and later to KL Mauthausen-Gusen. He survived.

30.06.1981|The verdict of the Düsseldorf trial was announced. It was the last big trial of #Majdanek garrison members with 17 defendants, both women and men. It began in November 1975 and was the longest trial of Nazi perpetrators in the history of judiciary.

26.06.1943|Once the last prisoners of SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec dismantled the camp structures, the SS sent them to #Sobibór to gas them upon arrival. The deportees attacked the guards at the unloading ramp and were all shot. The sole survivor Chaim Hirszman escaped from the train.

25.06.1906|Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor Kalmen Wewryk was born in Chełm. In the autumn of 1942 he was deported to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor. Selected for labour he worked as a carpenter until the prisoner uprising. After WWII he lived in France and Canada.

24.06.1943|German forces launched Aktion Werwolf: the final stage of displacement operations at the Lublin-Zamość area in occupied Poland. By the means of deportations and mass murder of Poles it aimed at finding Lebensraum: ‘living space’ demanded by Hitler in his Nazi policies.

19.06.1943|Polish man Eugeniusz Niechoda was imprisoned at Majdanek. He was among the 29 people arrested that day in a German round-up at the Jamy settlement. Registered as prisoner no. 19075 he was detained at field IV. Eugeniusz survived thanks to his release in September 1943.

18.06.1944|Klemens Drzewiecki was arrested by the Germans as a resistance member. He was first detained at the transit camp in Zwierzyniec and then deported to #Majdanek. Klemens was kept at field I until the final camp evacuation in July 1944. He survived.

11.06.1922|Polish Jewish woman Estera Raab née Terner was born in Chełm. In December 1942, she was deported to the German Nazi death camp SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor. She was selected for labour and later escaped during the prisoner uprising and survived the #Holocaust.

01.06.1943|Transport of 3005 Jews departed from Kamp Westerbork in the Netherlands to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor. Deportees arrived 3 days later, most were immediately murdered in the gas chambers. One man from among them survived the #Holocaust – Jules Schelvis.

29.05.1896|Polish Jewish man Zygfryd Chuwis was born in Lwów. He graduated in medicine from the University of Lwów and worked as a dentist. Zygfryd was arrested at his home on 16 August 1942 and deported to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. #Holocaust.

OTD the SS held the first Kinderaktion at #Majdanek. Over 200 Jewish children had been spared during preliminary selections to give a false sense of safety to their mothers. On 28.05.1943 they were rallied from around the women's section, loaded on trucks and murdered in the gas chambers. #Holocaust

27.05.1942|Prague: Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš, Czechoslovak SOE-trained paratroopers, ambushed the car of Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, head of the Reich Security Main Office and one of the architects of the #Holocaust. That assassination attempt proved successful. Heydrich died 8 days later.

21.05.1943|66 female prisoners of #Majdanek were transferred to the Gestapo prison at the Lublin castle. Among them there was Bronia Zysman, a 13 y/o Polish Jewish girl from Lublin. The German prison guards killed her on 22.07.1944, hours before the Red Army captured the city.

Following Heinrich Himmler’s order to establish a special field hospital (lazaret) at #Majdanek the first group of ‘patients’ were taken there on 21.05.1943. Around 300 Soviet invalids were placed at prisoner field II - mostly former POWs that defected to the German side.

20.05.1923|Polish Jew Israel Gutman was born. Captured as a Warsaw Ghetto Uprising fighter he was deported to #Majdanek in May 1943. Shortly afterwards, he was sent to #Auschwitz and later to KL Mauthausen. He testified during the Eichmann trial and later became the chief historian at Yad Vashem.
