My native plant container garden earning its keep this morning: a monarch on mistflower and a hummingbird on a Monarda cultivar and straight native. Then it flits over to the monarch. Feels like I’ve done something right in my life. The monarch is now called Dolly!

You haven’t lived until you’ve bargained for Christmas trees in old Satwa, a working class district of Dubai that remains mostly undeveloped. And the trees are pricier because they’re from Canada not Pakistan.

My mother is the blonde woman in the far background assessing the worth of her Christmas tree. The trees are sold from the back of a truck.

For trees for sale. They are tied up in the back of a truck and one is being unloaded by the very kind and hard working tree traders from Pakistan.
