I book a seat in the quiet zone. A man with headphones on starts talking loudly, as soon as the train starts rolling. I say to him: what part of the quiet zone concept was lost on you? He stops. Getting older, less willing to tolerate inconsiderate fellow passengers.

It is remarkable, that all of former YU (except Croatia) + Bulgaria + Albania use the same library information system: Cobiss. Which is, btw, more intuitive for users then the Ex Libris platform (by Clarivate) used in Austria and Switzerland. www.cobiss.net

we were allowed to take courses at Uni Graz, we read Foucault, Derrida, Heidegger, Eva Meyer, but on our own. I think this self-made studying is important, TU Graz also had student-managed studio culture (autonome Zeichensäle). Unis experience depends on informal learning and peers, in some fields

You could learn more practical skills as an apprentice, but studying architecture (at least in my time) meant philosophy (PoMo), politics, activism, and redefining the making of architecture. It’s more regulated now, though some still do this.

Funders require open access for everything, including images, and often accept only CC BY. Archives, rights holders, and stricter EU copyright rules are limiting what can be reproduced. Researchers bear the brunt. This affects research that depends on historical images the most.

I want a "conference" where every academic cooks a dish for everyone and we all talk about our work casually while cooking. People can sous chef for each other. We eat and talk about our work in progress. You submit an abstract and a recipe.

So proud of myself. Converted djvu files into jpegs then into PDF. A book by Ignaz Felbiger from 1783. Used IrfanView batch converter (be sure to enable djvu add-on) and then Acrobat. (I am working on schools 1945-1979, but sometimes I just have to go down the rabbit holes of the 18th century)

From what I vaguely remember: hysteria changed over time, from wandering uterus (hence the name) over those fainting women to anorexia. Von Braun's main point: the men described the symptoms, the women acted them out.

TBH - the first article has much better contextualization and analysis, and has a plausible structure/scope. For me such publishing practices are not quite ethical. I am aware that many scholars are under pressure to publish.
