You find yourself in the Coconut Falls Retirement Community. The distant hubbub of the city is drowned out by crashing surf and the slothful plucks of a banjo, the elderly skunk fussing with it inviting you to sit a spell while he dusts off his singing voice... 🦨🪕🎶 (🎨: @eightbitbeetle.bsky.social)

Freelance Antagonism has always been defined by a simple adage: "make people's lives harder, not shorter." And as the only person who's lived by that creed, Smacky refuses to bring his plans of retirement to fruition until there’s someone who can bring as much joy to his beloved city as he has.

He's found his replacement in Duino D. Duck.

Elegant, precise, deadly... these are words you'd use to describe a B-2 Stealth Bomber. Duino is none of them. He loves himself almost as much as he loves the misfortune of others. He is about the size of a trash can and has the manners of a trash can. If there's a spotlight within a five minute radius, he's hatching a half-baked plan to steal it. His first priority is making sure he's everyone else's first priority. He's an engine that runs on attention and the fuel light won't stop blinking. He's loud, he's quick to anger, and he has a bad habit of using others around him like a jungle gym.

And, according to Smacky, he's perfect for the job.

Leftfield is a city defined by the stillness between waves of chaos, and someone needs to create the tide. For the time being, though, they're stuck with someone who loves shouting "CANNONBALL."

Aura asked if I could hang up a poster in our spare room tonight. I took careful measurements, drilled precisely, and hung it up perfectly on the first try. To celebrate, I dabbed. And in doing so, I knocked the poster next to it onto the floor.

Folks really seemed to like the last time I did one of these, so: today's writing exercise is POV pooltoy TF. 🎈
The smooth, metal surface of the mold is cold on your exposed skin. Even wedged between two giant casting plates, you’re surprised how much room you have to move your arms. Not that you are- they advised against that. It’s dark, save for the sparse light coming in through an air hole above you. Your breath rattles around the cast iron cave. You can hear the blood pumping through your ears. There’s distant chatter, none of which you can make out.
Then, much closer, a siren. Some shouting. Pneumatic tubes pressurizing, rattling your cage. Finally, a loud clunk of a metal separator opening, echoing all around you in the darkness. You take a deep breath.
A thick, viscous oil seeps in from vents at your hips, pooling in the bottom of the container. It ebbs over your feet, oozing like toothpaste and pooling below you. It’s warm. There’s a powerful scent of chlorine and car wax, you think. Nervously, you lift up one foot, and then the other, adjusting your posture. The material clings to your skin as you do, and you brace, expecting to slip as you put your feet back down. Surprisingly, the ooze is stable enough to stand in. You can’t feel the bottom of the mold anymore.
The material climbs your ankles and ebbs up your shins. The motors in the pneumatic systems seem to change gears, as the droning whirs increase in pitch. You feel the moisture from your breath hang in front of you, staring straight ahead at the foreign curves of the second plate. You crane your neck, trying to use the sparse light from the breathing hole to get a read on the goo as it swallows your knees. It’s translucent, but twinged green.
The motors around you pause. For a moment, the only sound you hear is a thick dripping. You try to adjust your legs again, but the added volume of goop has made it significantly denser, and you can’t bend your knees. You try to wiggle your toes to no avail. You think you taste pool water. There’s a second clunk. The oil pours in from vents at your shoulders now. It rises past your waist, swallowing your left hand. Your right had been wiping your forehead and fixing your hair, helping you remember the tenseness of your skin. You scratch your chin one last time, and plunge your right hand into the ooze. It’s hard to pierce the surface, and your really have to push to extend it comfortably. You give your arm a shake as it gets back into position, the goo engulfing over your wrists now. You try to pull your hand back again to touch your nose. It can’t move.
The warmth of the ooze rolls up your back and cradles your stomach. It feels like being lowered into a hot tub, as tiny plumes of steam wisp past your eyebrows and escape through the hole above. Soreness in shoulder blade muscles you didn’t even know you had seems to melt away on contact. Despite the weight and rigidity of the goop, you feel lighter. Your shoulders lock into place as they’re swallowed by the torrent, wholly relaxed for the first time in over a decade.
The motors stop again. There’s most distant calls, and the little light you had is suddenly obscured. They told you about this part. It didn’t sound pleasant, but they assured you it was safe. There’s a much louder clunk as clamps are put into place above you. You can’t hear anything from the outside anymore. The blood pumping through your ears gets faster. You take a deep breath of waxy air and hold it.
The ooze falls on top of your head like a deluge of caramel. It flattens out your hair and cascades down your ears. There’s a muffled roaring as they’re covered, like being deeper underwater than you’ve ever dared to go. It’s so dark you’re not sure if your eyes were closed, but you wedge them more shut anyway. Warmth slides up your chin, across your mouth, and hangs in your nostrils. It tastes like disinfectant and piña colada. You try not to let any get inside your throat, but you think you feel a drip or two breach your lips. You think they said it wasn’ta big deal if that happened. You think.
The roaring in your ears gets louder as they’re fully subsumed. You feel gunk pool around your head until it’s motionless, and can only hear a faint slapping noise from above you as the rest of the space in your mold is filled. You’re floating in a puddle of magma, being swallowed by the earth. You can’t breathe, but somehow you do.
As time passes, the warmth of the material begins to fade. You’ve grown accustomed to the weight of the ooze, almost like learning to swim. You still can’t move, but it feels lighter. You feel lighter. You think there were thoughts you were supposed to be thinking right now, but you can’t think of what they were. You want to go to the beach. The roaring in your ears quiets until you can’t hear anything anymore.
The mold slides open. You grunt as you unwedge yourself from the metal, your hips and ears popping from the curves. You stretch, your arms making a rubbery creak sound as you do. Your trunk reaches down and prods at the nozzle on your belly, smiling as you find it holding fast. The people around you are all marveling and taking notes, and some of them seem to want you to sign something. Some of them are taking photos. You don’t recognize any of them.
You want to go to the beach.

As a fun epilogue: I think it's worth mentioning that a year later, I used the mentions on this post as votes to decide which PMD game should be the first one I tried. Explorers of Sky is good so far!! I am beginning to understand The Culture. Also Loudred is Ray Romano now www.twitch.tv/duinoduck
