My first amp - a 15W Demon - had a big reverb tank on a backplate that loved to fall off the amp and scare the shit out of me. I kind of dug the noise though so made (lightly) kicking the amp during an old band’s cover of Bela Lugosi’s Dead a part of the intro.

It feels to me like it has become the “Louie, Louie” of sci-fi adaptations. Fun primitive thing everyone has a go at and can’t improve on because it works best left uncomplicated. I love Jeff Wayne’s musical version because it has narration and some amazing illustrations in the LP booklet.

Favourite adaptation: LoTR (apart from the half hour of goodbyes at the end of The Return of the King when I was in my cinema seat dying for a piss). Least favourite: Inhumans. Dreadful Marvel show, mix of bad CGI and dialogue that managed to sound like it was written by ChatGPT before it existed.

Clear as mud. When I bought my house Southern Water charged £50 a month, almost double what I’d been paying renting. Rang. They said it will change depending on usage. Fair enough, it dropped to £35 pcm two months later. New email, bill going up to £47 pcm based on usage. Usage hasn’t changed. 😕
