On July 9th in 1868, the United States ratified the 14th amendment. This historic act enshrined birthright citizenship into our Constitution, giving people born or naturalized in the U.S. - including formerly enslaved people - and guaranteed citizens equal protection under the law.

Over 150 years later, the 14th amendment is more important than ever. Just a few weeks ago, SCOTUS rejected recent attempts by President Trump to end birthright citizenship, reaffirming that every American's due process and equal protection are protected by the constitution.
