Killer7 I’m going to be thinking about this game for the next decade I think. 8/10

The Case of the Golden Idol Quite engaging as a detective game, and quite interesting in that, as you fill in the literal blanks of each murder scene, you’re also meant to fill in the blanks of the complex story taking place behind the scenes. Absolutely RANCID vibes. 8/10

Frankenstein (2025) A tremendous adaptation of the Shelley novel, putting just enough of an original spin on the story to fill it out as an epic without taking away from its central themes. Sets and costumes are extravagant, and you can tell where all that Netflix money went. 9/10

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation Now entering the McQuarrie era, taking the saturday morning cartoon energy of Ghost Protocol and running with it. Action sequences are often ridiculous, but always awesome, and always memorable. Introduces the series’ best character in Ilsa Faust. 8/10

My Father’s Shadow God what a beautiful movie. A bittersweet adventure about trying to be a good parent before it’s too late, full of color and life that practically pops right out of the screen. Does a tremendous job at showing a chaotic world through a child’s eyes 9/10

Blue Heron Challenging as many “troubled child” stories are, but not melodramatic. I was fascinated by how it places you in the parents’ shoes, watching concerning moments happen and wondering what can be done to help. It does not prescribe a solution, because it does not claim to know 8/10

You seem to have caught the attention of the strange beast girl at the party, but she’s a little shy… Will you go say hello? (Thank you SOOO much to @metallicumbrage.moopa.ink for the wonderful work 💙 💕)

A feminine Aster wears short shorts with a studded belt, ripped leggings, a high-cut top, striped arm warmers, and a studded collar. She stands awkwardly on one paw, tail and hips swaying, and brushes her hair aside while casting a shy, flirty look at the viewer.

Öoo A perfect snack-size metroidvania adventure, pelting you with puzzle after puzzle and exploring its bomb-dropping mechanic to the fullest. Never becomes a complete brain-buster, but remains just clever enough to constantly keep you thinking and feeling those “a-ha” moments of discovery 8/10

Mushroom Kingdom Fusion Contains an insane amount of levels, playable characters, weapons, and enemies inspired by retro games of all sorts, but ended up feeling less than the sum of its parts for me. Levels are bloated and often turn into run-and-guns, and many characters just aren’t viable 4/10

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust Soooooo awesome. Crazy over-the-top gothic + grungy post-apocalyptic vibes blending together. Gorgeously detailed and smooth cel animation. Chunky machinery and cheesy monsters and big swords to satiate my soul. What were they feeding them over there at Madhouse 8/10

Drive Another I appreciate more on a rewatch. Quiet moodiness and peaceful mundanity that feels more like a cheap mask, pulled away to reveal violence and grit at a moment’s notice. Brought arthouse flair to Hollywood action films, and inspired countless others of the genre to do the same 8/10

Rosie's up to her antics yet again, and ready for mayhem! Though she seems a bit more...fluid than usual? Perhaps it's just a trick of the light... An adorable set of gooey Rosie chibis by @thatalpaca.bsky.social 💙

A stylishly-dressed Luxray woman floats in midair, as if posing on a video game cover. Her body shines and drips little droplets, seemingly made of a viscous goo.

The same Luxray woman, now clothes-less.

Metropolis (2001) Absolutely stunning animation and art direction, just scene after scene of being blown away. Its fairly simple narrative works in its favor, and lends it fable-like qualities. I adored the juxtaposition of cartoony Tezuka-styled characters with its detailed environments. 9/10

Asteroid City Enjoyed this rewatch even more. Going in prepared for the jumpy metafictional narrative helped me to better vibe with the film’s intentions. It’s still odd as hell, but it’s got a dry charm, an intelligent sense of humor, and I think it might be one of Anderson’s best. 8/10
