digital two-panel sketch of dietrich and fabio from fire emblem: fortune's weave

panel one: dietrich is staring up while his face is being cupped by fabio's hands. he is daydreaming about being covered in blood around some implied corpses

panel two: fabio is quaking with cuteness aggression while daydreaming about fabio being a small fluffy dog covered in blood.

🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶 You're welcome! I don't know everything about English, but I'm always happy to answer questions for you ♥️♥️💖💖

Cursive script is also harder to read. Because so much stuff for girls is in cursive, though, girls usually grow up having an easier time reading it than boys do 😅

100

Oh! I can't replicate it in text, but titles aimed at girls will sometimes use cursive script — it has lots of curves and flourishes, and give an impression of princess handwriting. Titles for boys usually have big block letters, like road signs.

100

Yeah! In comics, the capitals are so all the letters are very easy to read. Especially for children, [B D P Q] are much easier to read than [b d p q]. Lowercase L (l) looks like a capitalized i (I). And thank you ♥️ I'm glad it was useful to you!

😭💕 Right!! Claude's dual heritage is very special, so I was really excited to see they included a sign of it here.

020

Comic books also use a special form of all capitals for readability. (Online, when people write without capitalizing at all, it's meant to give off a cool, lazy, or relaxed impression. When I'm rapidly messaging my local friends, I never capitalize anything ✌️🥰)

Oh!! So that's why I see a lot of logos and banners in katakana — they want that strong impression. I understand now, that's very cool. We do something similar with (ALL CAPITALS) / (no caps) for emphasis. All capitals are usually for logos, emphasis, or to convey a loud/excited speaking voice.

The artists took great care. Something I noticed right away is that the platform he stands on. The ground is two different colors. It looks like he's standing in two different 'lands', doesn't it? It's a Gronder Field pose, but it looks like he has one foot in Fodlan and one in Palmyra. 🥰 it's cute!

😭🥰 They're so cute!! His design is really so beautiful, and I'm glad they were able to capture his charm points ✨

Yes, loanwords! 🥰 Japanese language usually writes loanwords in katakana, right? English doesn't have a useful script like that, so sometimes they're harder to see.

I never noticed this tassel before now. 🥰 It's one of my favorite colors.

A sea-green tassel attached to a gold pauldron, clipped from the previous video. the tassel is circled.

While I'm thinking about it... Most of our science terms are built from Latin, while our vocabulary for law is mostly French. Math terms usually come from Greek or Arabic. As you get more familiar with different patterns in English, you'll start to recognize which words are borrowed.

I see! I think it must be difficult to include the in-depth explanations, even if your teachers had time for it. English can be very inconsistent 😭 When I study other languages, I often think, "wow! this is so much easier than how we do it. I wish English worked like this."

That's right! A lot of English words build their meaning from 'prefixes' and 'suffixes'. Most prefixes and suffixes have roots in the Greek and Latin languages. When I was in secondary school, we spent time memorizing many common ones. When you know many of them, new words become easier to learn.
