LA at night. A pinch me moment when I arrived for @aeraedresearch.bsky.social last night. #conference #research
The photo shows a city scape at night. The photo is taken from a height and buildings are visible from the front of the photo the whole way to the horizon. The sky is dark and light is beaming from the buildings into the sky. At the front of the photo some of the roof tops of the buildings are visible. There is a prominent building with EY in bright lettering on top at the front of the photo and behind it another taller building reaching at least 12 more stories into the sky. The lights in the building sit against the dark background.

I am good at some things, I'm also aware of my limitations. Packing is one of my limitations, I'm a just in case sort of person... who is trying not to pack too much... and mostly what I've packed so far is books! @aeraedresearch.bsky.social @aerlingus1.bsky.social #conference #disability #books

On Monday I fly to LA for the @aeraedresearch.bsky.social conference with @aerlingus1.bsky.social. This will be my first trip to LA and my first longhaul flight in a while, certainly since MS came into my life. I'm presenting as part of the @esai-irl.bsky.social symposium. All LA advice welcome!
This image is of a PowerPoint slide. It is white and has black text reading 'Considering historical erasures and persistent normative assumptions: Researching the lived experiences of autistic academics working in Autism Friendly Universities'. Below that it reads Dr Maggie Green. To the side of this is an abstract line drawing of two faces, one inside the other. One face is calm and has eyes closed, chin tilten up slightly. the other face has eyes closed and mouth open, appearing to shout. Below this is the logo for the ATU, the logo for the AERA conference and the ESAI logo.

Stigma arises when people are marked as ‘other’ based on characteristics that fall outside the widely accepted norms, leading to bullying. Stigmatised identities can be socially constructed and wielded as a form of power to marginalise and control certain groups. #Autism #Identity

Sunday morning shenanigans with Sherlock Bones. #dogsofbluesky
The photo shows a brownish reddish dog lying on a wooden floor bathed in sunlight. His eyes are amber and his nose is black. He has long floppy ears. He is wearing a light blue collar and only his head and neck are visible in the photo.

So.. as someone who has not spent much time on Bluesky, but who is trying to rectify that, how do I find the #MS #disability community here? All advice welcome.
The photo shows a white cup on a white saucer with a silver spoon standing up in it. The cup has hot chocolate in it. It is sitting on a white table and there is a small oval bowl of cream sitting beside the cup and saucer. the photo was taken in a cafe setting.

The youngest member of the team is Sherlock Bones, he is an excellent investigative researcher. Sherlock loves a good puzzle and regularly engages with research in new and creative ways. He is a dynamo and we are lucky to have him. Outside of research Sherlock loves to destroy socks.
The photo shows a brown and black Bavarian Mountain Hound. He is lying on a pale wooden floor and his paws are stretched out in front of him. He has brown eyes and a black nose. He is looking directly at the camera. He has large floppy ears.

The second member of the team is Maisie, she has four years of research experience. Maisie is interested in Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis & loves a double hermeneutic. Maisie is interested in autistic lived experiences. When she's not reading Maisie loves a good run through mucky puddles.
The picture shows a blonde labradoodle standing up at a red half door. The dog has a brown nose and brown eyes. She is looking directly at the camera and her two fluffy paws are resting on the top of the half door.

By way of introduction.. this is my research team.. starting with Cú, an Irish Wolfhound who has a distinct interest in intersectionality, autistic identity and phenomenology. She has a keen eye for a good quality paper and as you can see she is sometimes surprised by what she reads!
The picture shows an Irish wolfhound lying on a pale wooden floor. She is black and grey and white. She is wearing a purple bandana with white spots. She has brown eyes and a black nose. She is looking to the side and her mouth is open, her pink tongue and white teeth are visible. She looks surprised.

Sometimes the researcher's lived experience aligns closely with the focus of the study and in occupying the role of researcher, parts of the self also become a part of the research? The two can't always be neatly separated... can they?
This is a picture from the back of a boat as it leaves the Norwegian Fjords. The water is rippled and dark with a trail of white foam in the wake of the boat. The fjords rise up on either side towards a blue sky mottled with white and grey clouds.

Writing and rewriting today, trying to be clear! "Autistic identity is a site of epistemic resistance, education is a practice of freedom (hooks, 1994) & the existence of autistic academics creates possibilities for transformative inclusion that shifts ways of being and knowing in higher education."
The photo shows two dogs standing on their hind legs looking out a black framed window. One of the dogs is blonde and is a labradoodle and the other is brown-red and is a Bavarian Mountain Hound. They are looking out at a chicken coop that is situated behind a bird table on a green lawn. To the side of the blonde dog is a side table and stacked on top of it are books, beside the books sits a bronze rabbit light. Above the side table is a black and white drawing of a dog. To the side of the brown-red dog is a grey sofa and on it rests a yellow cushion. The dogs are standing on a wooden floor and their front paws are resting on a window sill.

Day one… I am very much looking forward to #ISATT2025 over the next few days.
The image shows a conference name badge. It is a university of Glasgow ISATT conference and the name on the badge is Maggie Green. The image shows large white letters standing against a grey stone background. The letters read UofG. The image shows a photo of part of the University of Glasgow. One turret is visible. The stonework is varying shades of grey and brown. The image shows a grey stone background in the kelvingrove museum.
A partial staircase is visible.
To the foreground of the image white bald heads are suspended at different heights in the air from clear string. This gives the impression that the heads are floating. The heads all have different over exaggerated expressions.
