Rebecca Solnit is one of the most respected political commentators in the US with regular columns in The Guardian and the author of a number of well known and highly regarded books including one called 'Mansplaining' which is a concept you may have heard of? She was the originator of that.

Currently imo voters get half a vote,'tell us what you want'. They don't get to vote against stuff they hate. Why not, instead of being confined to being cheerleaders for one party every few years, when that vote may only convey a fraction of what they want to say at the ballot box?

That is a somewhat naive view of voting, as Rebecca Solnit says: 'Voting is a chess move, not a love letter'. I am not American and I would say I am broadly in favour of Democratic party policies. But even if I thought the Democrats were rubbish I would absolutely have voted for them to stop MAGA's.

Yep, both my parents were very intelligent and my father spent his life in mines and as a steelworker, (mother gave up her office job on marrying as was expected of women in those days- no need to sack them). The only reason I got my degree was a free education and student grants for poor kids.

Yup, getting people used to the idea that it should be harder for women to vote. I have seen the idea that votes should be ‘one per household’ no guesses as to who would be exercising that right in the vast majority of hetero households. ‘Trad wives’ style control of women’s votes already a thing.
