June Garden 🐝 It’s lovely to say hello to the month of June and welcome summer with a vibrant wild garden of Irises. I’m considering making this 26x17 inch mat into a pillow. Wishing you a lovely month of June. #textileart #art #fiberart #hookedrug #rughooking #hookingrugs

Before & After. The bottom photo shows an Iris Garden I hooked in April 2024. Top photo shows an Iris Garden I completed in May 2025. Keep going, don’t stop honing skills. Even if the design seems uncertain, keep tweaking and creating. It’s so worth it! #fiberart #artist #rughooking #hookedrug

Summer Solstice 🌞 My favorite month is just around the corner, and creating a vivid meadow against a yellow sky seemed like a great way to welcome the month of June and the Summer Solstice. #rug #textile #art #fiberart #artist #hookedrug #rughooking #hookingrugs #maker

Let art be your voice to transform ideas and solve problems through open-mindedness. Make art to communicate ideas and changes for social or political reform. #fiberart #art #fiberartist

No matter what … Keep creating. Maud Lewis is a wonderful inspiration to create, no matter what the circumstances. If you are finding it hard to create during these difficult days, I recommend watching the 2016 movie about her life and reading this book. #maudlewis

It’s a process … There’s a beginning, a (long) middle, and an end. Enjoy the flow where all the spontaneity and magic happens.

My book recommendations that help us focus and enhance our wellbeing. I read & journal every day. When I am at peace, I can create. The act of creating only enhances my mental wellness because my mind and hands are focused on what I’m making. #thesevengenerations #thedailystoic

To Begin … can be the hardest part. I tend to peruse through photos from my hikes & the many books on my shelves. It’s the most daunting part of creating a rug for me. But once I get started, it’s hard to stop me. #rug #mat #fiberart #textile #maggiebathoryart #hookedrug #rughooking #hookingrugs

Peonies in Spring; my most recent work. At 12x13 inches, it’s small in comparison to the larger rugs I make. I’m always drawn to vivid colors that make me happy. #rug #fiberart #hookedrug #rughooking #hookingrugs

While I’m making my rugs, the colors & shapes blend together & there aren’t distinctive lines delineating the motifs from each other & the background. I have to step back & look at my work from far away; then the design makes sense. #fiberartist #rughooking #hookingrugs #hookedrug

Rhythm. What’s your rhythm when it comes to creating? Do you create when there is available time, or do you have a dedicated time? There’s no right answer. This hopefully plants the seed to think about your approach to creating, so that it is a part of your day. #rughooking #hookedrug #art

Have creative block? Try hooking 2 8x8 inch mats using analogous colors, and after you’re finished, observe how these colors make you feel. Want to make more observations? Hook another 8x8 mat using complimentary colors. Observe the differences. #rughooking #hookedrug #hookingrugs #fiberart #art

I created 2 lists for artists who hook, tuft, or punch rugs. The idea of a list is to curate content, so users can easily follow related topics. I added rug-hookers to both lists (#hookingrugs, #hookedrugs). You have the option to remove yourself from the list.

I'm a big fan of Susan B Anthony. I made a hooked wool art rug in her honor in 2020.

#Rughooking- A Martina Lesar design where I took some liberties and added a few things. I think the home made frame makes it interesting.

Rug hooked cabinet by water in a round frame. Lights are on and smoke coming out of chimney.

There’s something about a pile of hooked rugs. I love stacking them together, they end up creating a design of their own! #rughooking #fiberart #art #novascotia #colourfulart #wool #fibrearts #handmade

3 colourful hooked rugs piled together. The top rug has a little house with laundry blowing joyfully in the wind. A blue sky and little flowers on the ground.

Which artist inspires you? List 3 of your fav artists with 3 of your fav works. Ask yourself what you like about these works: colors, textures, style, motifs, subject matter, perspective, or materials used. This exercise helps w/ creative block. Painting shown is by CO artist, Rockey.

Who inspires you? Look to those who inspire your life and art. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and show you what you should and shouldn’t do. I find that when I do this, I am prolific as I create in my studio. I also am “lighter” and not burdened by external things. #artistsonbluesky
