I'd warn that underestimating how reactionary/brainwashed much of the country is is a far bigger problem. That's what has to be overcome. The reactionary strain will never be eliminated but historically it was kept in check before Trump.

He has to be voted into irrelevance, which may be happening in a few weeks, after which he should (🤞) die or otherwise leave office without attempting a coup. And we have to hope that he's sui generis thanks to The Apprentice, etc. Vance is the obvious successor but has negative charisma.

You seem to agree that the median voter is an idiot. This seems indisputable to me. In a midterm election like 2006 and, I hope, 2026, the median voter will either stay home or is so moved by negative vibes that they vote against Republicans. They obviously don’t stay home when Trump runs.
