They aren't distractions. They're an integral aspect of being authoritarian.

Unfortunately it's not an either/or, it's both.

It's not a distraction, it's remembering to live life while you can. It's having things to sustain you when everything wants to tear you apart. It's mental health.

No. This is probably why I'm not a politician.

Not even a little bit. I'm sorry about that reading comprehension but it's not my problem. Have a nice evening.

It's not a damn distraction. It's just all happening at the same time. That's what happens when you elect a dumb-as-rocks madman to be the leader of the world's biggest superpower. They destroy as much as possible as quickly as possible, and they came in this time with a plan.

Gwen Manfrin (American, born 1956) Enough Already, 2022 Watercolor on paper 14 × 11 in (35.6 × 27.9 cm) Private collection
“Enough Already!” by Gwen Manfrin. Because honestly, who among us hasn’t wanted to throw our hands up and declare we’ve officially reached our limit? This painting captures that universal moment when life hands you one too many lemons and you’re fresh out of sugar.

Gwen’s brilliant at capturing those unconscious body language moments we all recognize – you know, like when someone’s explaining cryptocurrency for the third time and your soul starts leaving your body. Her figures exist outside of time and place, letting their poses do all the talking (and boy, do they have things to say).

This California artist has been perfecting the art of visual storytelling since graduating from UCLA in 1977 (yes, that makes her cooler than all of us). Her work graces collections from SunMicrosystems to Nordstrom – proving that good art travels everywhere, even to places where people argue about operating systems and debate whether beige is a color.

I don't know. I don't have the answers either, and we don't actually know what's going to have what kind of historical impact. I just know someone has to reach these people and dems don't even try because they *are* the status quo.

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 22/06/2025
Lol and yet any attempt to hold democrats to a higher standard is rejected wholesale by the vast majority of dems. I'm no stranger to higher standards. I just happen to think reaching the target audience might be a better long term investment than whatever drop in the bucket NYT gets out of it.

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 22/06/2025
I mean I'm not stopping them from trying, am I? Where is it? Who's getting through to these people? What's your idea and why aren't you pitching it to The Onion? We'd genuinely all love to hear it.

One reason I'm not a democrat- the bar is in hell. He's not as bad as the current warmonger but he held his own on many of the issues Trump has just amplified. When are y'all going to start having higher standards for your heroes?

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 22/06/2025
You know what they have that's worth paying for? An audience where this mess is being normalized. Someone needs to figure out how to reach these people. If you haven't done it yet, I don't think you can really criticize how someone else has.

Why are people so scared to try something new? Are they actually happy with the way things are now? Come on NY, just try it!

because they aren't on my side. They have the same sponsors and personal wealth reasons to be where they are- they don't give a damn about me. So excuse me from the democrat label- I vote for them because there's no choice, not because they're capable of doing the right thing.

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 22/06/2025
They haven't been my own for decades. They're republican lite and have been for a long time. If their behavior during the election and since hasn't convinced you of that, this comment certainly won't- but no, I'm not going to stop holding them to a higher standard

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 22/06/2025
But they aren't their enemies. Doesn't their lack of strategy for this moment, their strongly worded letter, their inability to actually protect anyone, and their corporate donors tell you that? They aren't the same, but they're definitely on the same side and it's not ours.
020
sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 21/06/2025
They aren't going to do something because they're on the same side. Remember "defund the police"? This is why. Per the Supreme Court, they have no legal obligation to "protect and serve". They don't exist to help people. They're modern day slave catchers.

In fact, it's making a lot of people think we're winning something and the Dodgers are "good" now, but on the larger systemic scale, we aren't and they aren't. It's reality and I'm sorry it's such a bummer.

We have to change the whole dynamic. We will never do that if we let ourselves be appeased with less. It's not hate, it's not an attack, it's knowing things are broken at a deeper level and this isn't fixing it.
110
sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 21/06/2025
let them appease us for the bare minimum they do begrudgingly. Look at all these new Dodger fans in these posts. You can be happy for the good things they do, but when you start thinking they're on our side, you settle for what amounts to nothing for them.
110
sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 21/06/2025
It's not an attack or "hating". It's recognizing the dynamics at play, the motivations, and where their true loyalties lie. It's like Target removing all their pride merch as soon as they thought they could get away with it. It's reality, and if we don't acknowledge it, we

It only comes into play if they honor the law and the constitution. Courts so far are generally ruling in favor of the law, but this administration is generally ignoring them. People are being disappeared to places where we don't even know if they're alive. The law only works if they follow it.

rather than opposing sides. Leftists don't call themselves liberal even when they vote for dems.

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 21/06/2025
Yes, those are good things. I really recommend the political compass test if you're interested in seeing where you fall. There's a whole world of leftist philosophy and platforms that are almost as critical of dems as they are republicans, because the two are seen as close cousins
100
sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 21/06/2025
I'm curious- which ideologies or political philosophies would you consider left? I know a lot of leftists irl and not one of them would claim to be liberal, online or otherwise. You might be interested in taking the political compass test. It shows you where your beliefs fall on the compass.

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 21/06/2025
The dem party in no way contains leftist ideas or policies. There's nothing leftist about its agenda. When leftists vote for them, it's not because their interests are represented. It's because the other one is worse. On actual platforms, they simply aren't left, they're centrist at best.

And every webpage or app I open will ask me if I want to use it before I can do anything else. And that will be its only contribution to my life, other than the endless hype about what it's not doing.

sarákaté @madsweetsting.bsky.social · 21/06/2025
Ah. Yeah, that's a blind spot in the US. We don't have a true left party, so liberals look left only in comparison to republicans- but to most of the world, libs are center-right.

Yeah, I don't know if this is the case here, but I've noticed a lot of people are really uncomfortable with genuine enthusiasm or with people who aren't self conscious. "Try hard" or "cringe" or whatever- but I love watching people who are good at what they do having fun doing it. It's the best.
