Extremely ill-advised dinner (I’m lactose-intolerant).

A small sheet pan of nachos with ground beef, shredded cheese, liquid jarred queso, jarred salsa, mashed avocado, and lactose-free Greek yogurt pretending to be a lime crema thing. I may survive but I’m okay if I don’t honestly.

This sure is a follow up to that last repost but my dinner from last night was really good for being shoved together. Needed to use up the figs (I think the last of the season…) and mushrooms, wanted steak, love a big salad. What I got was a surprisingly well balanced mix of bright and fresh flavor.

A plate-sized green salad topped with sautéed mushrooms, fresh figs, pickled onions, and steak seasoned with basic bitch Italian seasonings with olive oil and dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. I made the steak in the air fryer, which I might try searing and cooking next time for a juicier and less cooked steak. Forgot the fried garlic bits but probably didn’t need them. All around a great meal.

I was looking for some notes for a work thing (that I apparently never took notes on, just spouted at 8-9am, as you do) and found my very first notes for ParaPoly. Soft romance was always the goal. This shit is Angel food soft. Anyways, it got MUCH more queer and you can start reading it here.

What if Josh from Lights Out was painfully predictably straight and possessed by a gold star soft femme lesbian who’d been murdered in the woods? Together they solve a murder, find a serial killer, stop said serial killer, reconcile with the lesbian’s ex, and all discover some things about themselves along the way. In the end, he’s not any less straight probably but he’s extremely comfortable in himself, his sexuality, and his gender. He just now knows he’d look great in heels and mini skirts.

Not entirely sure that this has legs or like novella length juice. But it’s a fun and cute little romp idea. Some comedy pushing a little against stereotypes, some real shit about gender and identity, some coping with grief and loss. Maybe also some real shit about feeling emotions as a man too?

Note: while Painfully Straight High Masc Man Who Is Doing His Best can be possessed, Bi But Never Acted On It Girlfriend cannot. Maybe almost no one else can? Does he become determined to help solve other crimes and settle other souls?
Question: how can I write this opening without it feeling like a bait and switch? Is it a bait and switch?! Or, at its core, is it about the malleability of human gender and sexuality expression? I think it's probably that last one.

“I know, baby. That's because they're pecs, not boobs. Apparently he worked very hard for them.”
“And they’re way too high up. Why is this guy so tall?”

Recent foods that I’ve been forgetting to post at all. All very tasty.

Cheesy polenta topped with stewed short rib and the veggie-filled broth. Ignore my messy desk as always.

Extremely cheesy pepperoni pizza, with tomato and pesto sauces. I finally remembered the pepperonis!

Mushroom-spinach-pea-corn risotto with pork Italian sausage and sourdough toast.

Tonight’s beef stew is pretty good, considering I didn’t have enough broth for it, subbed in some lightly dashi’d water, and my pepper grinder died halfway through seasoning the beef cubes. Let it all cook longer after stuffing the instant pot a bit much et voilà! Now to let it cool and freeze it!

This week’s pizza was on focaccia dough made in my bread maker. Kinda ended up too chewy so we try a different recipe next time. Still good pizza. Still forgot the pepperonis.

If you’re wondering when I remembered the pepperonis, it’s about 2 minutes ago.

A cheesy and oozing pizza topped with red sauce, mozzarella, basil, and pepper fresh out of the oven. There’s also sun-dried tomatoes buried in there. I forgot literally every other ingredient somehow. And my crust is pale because I haven’t gotten more olive oil yet. Don’t judge me please. Unless it’s good, I like praise.

An extremely lopsided plain (because I forgot about the basil and it liquified…) cheese and sauce pizza topped with come olives (which I did not slice at all) and some sun-dried tomatoes (also unsliced) topped with gochugaru and pepper. Its sizzles g lightly on a baking stone, fresh out the oven.

Spaghoots balonies with some cheese on top. Tonight’s refreshment is a cream soda Olipop. Bone apple teeth, friends.

A small vat of baby’s first bolognese in the instant pot still. Will be dishing this into souper cubes to freeze for future dinners. It’s a basic recipes but with some diced mushrooms, cannellini beans, and baby spinach for higher protein and fiber content.

The worst part about making a delicious breakfast is doing dishes after.

Good news, the instant pot kinda mostly deglazed itself while I was working out, lucky me. And I remembered the parm.

Chicken and mushroom (tree oyster and shiitake) risotto with peas and spinach topped with shaved parm in a white square bowl. A hydration drink and a can of ginger ale Olipop I didn’t even get to are in the background with my water bottle. I might be hiding a jar of candy but it’s fine actually.
