And I’ve read Tolkien’s letter enough to know that wasn’t new then. WWI was supposed to be “the war to end all wars.” That’s what the sequel trilogy is. It’s saying, “Somehow, we didn’t fix it, so we have to work together, and maybe if we give up enough, maybe this time will be enough.”

To be clear, these are long shot races, because Oklahoma is so very red. But we have some Democrats in the state legislature from predominantly red districts. And we still have judges who were appointed by the last Democratic governor.

Additionally, the support for Cyndi Munson as the Democratic candidate in the primary was strong and unanimous. Meanwhile, the Republican split in the runoff was very tight. Things are looking very interesting.

I hate leftist infighting, and the fractious nature of the Democratic Party was on full display. The Oklahoma Democrats have shown that they favor socialism by a decently wide margin. This will not surprise anyone who actually knows Oklahoma history. If you don’t, look up the Green Corn Rebellion.

But I am very protective of my right to participate in democracy. I’m also the designated election researcher in our house, though I usually compare notes with my Dad. He’s better connected on local issues and often knows more that I do.

I like to look at my ballots in advance which also lets me casually check that I haven’t been purged from the polls. I doubt I will be, because I vote in EVERY election, especially local ones. And I’m in a lot of government databases, being certified and all.
