I LOVE how @propublica.org dealt with official comment here, editorially and stylistically.
The Trump administration says none of this is happening.

"DHS is NOT arresting U.S. citizens by mistake." "There are no 'indiscriminate' stops." Allegations of "racial profiling are disgusting, reckless and categorically FALSE." "The pattern is NOT of law enforcement using force." "ICE does not zip tie or restrain children."

But that is precisely what is happening, and at a far larger scale than previously reported.

For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

No. The truth council is unrelated. (The chair is a former state level judge — not federal — and the don’t seem concerned about or interested in the Truth Council.) The complaint today is more a continuation of the fight between federal prosecutors and judges in Minnesota

background:
Minnesota judges grew frustrated with the Department of Homeland Security and federal prosecutors this winter as they fielded around 1,000 habeas corpus cases, in which immigrants argued they’d been wrongfully detained. In more than 70% of cases, judges sided with the detainees and ordered their release, according to an analysis from University of Minnesota researchers.

In some of those cases, DHS did not immediately comply with judges’ orders to return detainees to Minnesota, prompting judges to consider contempt charges against federal officials. In an extraordinary move, U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey Bryan ordered U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen to appear in court and explain why he should not be held in contempt for violating court orders to return the property of 28 people released from ICE detention.

Trump administration officials also went over Schlitz’s head in an attempt to get a warrant for the arrest of journalists Don Lemon and others involved in the Cities Church protests. When that warrant was blocked by the other judge, the prosecutors convened a grand jury, which returned the indictments. Now, Micko is reviewing the grand jury transcripts to see if federal prosecutors acted improperly to secure the indictment.

The DOJ’s office in Minnesota lost many of its most experienced prosecutors in the wake of Operation Metro Surge, at least in part because Trump administration officials in Washington pushed them to abandon an inquiry into the killing of Renee Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in south Minneapolis, and instead investigate Good’s widow.
