I’ve been thrifting and buying from Thriftbooks. Also fun!

Karen Richard, MSc-SLP @madelive.bsky.social · 17/02/2025

Adding this to my list! Haven’t read it yet but I imagine it will be a fabulous book for all schools to have on their shelves.

My big guy. Definitely *not * sitting on the couch (a minute after getting kicked off).

It's always been the case that "buying" an ebook from amazon was only actually a loan they could rescind at any point, but lately Amazon have gone harder on this, and it is 100% so that they can wipe banned books from your libraries without your consent. Buy direct from authors. Get your files.

Yes!! I’ve been hearing/reading/saying this for weeks. This is what they want you to pay attention to. It’s a distraction from everything else that’s happening in the background. Pay attention. Look deeper.

Still scratching my head how leaving to live your freckles is seen as a DEI threat worth of banning this book by Julianne Moore. Here’s a reminder to add it to your own library since it’s being banned from schools. Thanks for the post on this one @penamerica.bsky.social #imwiththebanned #kidlit

…orrrr… we could just celebrate any kid who reads for fun, entertainment, or any other reason. Never mind how gross it is to add a pinch of food shaming?!

I feel like we remove power from amazon by NOT TALKING ABOUT AMAZON. Mention the library. Mention the indie bookseller. Mention the direct stores. LINK to the publisher or the direct store or the author website. You don’t even have to bring up Amazon or link to them.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct.! Good catch. @georgetakei.bsky.social do you have an updated version? Good rule of thumb - search for who owns the companies you *think* are Canadian. Prioritize "Product of Canada" first (98% Canadian), then "Made in Canada" (51%), and Canadian businesses!

For my friends looking to support more 🇨🇦 businesses. Here's a great list or Canadian brands to look for on store shelves. Screenshot it, save it to your favorites, and check it out next time you go shopping. #shopCanadian

So happy I finally made the leap over here. Reminiscent of early-days Twitter. Please, please, please don't let this place get taken over by idiots! Seriously wondering what took me so long.

Still one of my favorites. Gifted to countless preschoolers heading to kindergarten. Still do this with my sometimes "too cool for mom" 11yo. #audreypenn forever!

Did you know your public library's hoopla digital collections are absolutely destroying their budget? That prices have gone up in some instances of over 400%, while library budgets have been stagnant or cut? Everything you should know as a library user: bookriot.com/library-hoop...

Your regular reminder that there is no wrong medium for reading. Comic books, light novels, RPGs, games, ebooks, magazines all have text that tests comprehension - they demand you follow a story. Novels, short stories, poems are great, but any form of reading is fine, and opens the gate to more.

I just read that Atwood states that ALL of the scenarios in The Handmaid's Tale have actually occurred in real life. Shocked, yet not shocked.
