It would only be fair if this banana decided to snack on a human. It certainly looks capable of it. 🤔😉 #flowers #bloomscrolling

Turkey tail fungus on a log. As well as beautiful, it's thought it might have cancer fighting properties. Never hurt a fungi because you never know what cures might be just around the corner. #shroomscrolling #fungifun # fungilovers
Turkey tail fungus on a dead log. Last year's growth is now black and white but above it, this year's fans out in concentric whirls of soft browns and beige, like a baroque cloudscape.

The Chilean Puya are flowering in the Sheffield botanical Gardens. You almost have to know they are there to spot them as the bright blue flowers are hidden by a mass of serrated leaves. #bloomscrolling
Serrated sabre like leaves of dark green and scarlet hide outrageously cerulean and gold flowers at the heart of the Chilean Puya.

Sulphur Tufts just photograph so well!. I saw more unusual fungi on my walk but none that take such a good picture. #fungi #shroomscrolling

I'm deep in demand avoidance territory, making a miniature to avoid going back to what I should be doing, which is making things out of copper.

Back to a #bloomscroll just because the morning light is filtering through the pink flowers and bright lime fronds of my cosmos as hover flies dart round.

I used to spend hours creating miniature tools and books and painstakingly arranging them for Instagram only to see my posts vanish without a trace. I'd much rather share them on Pink leap and bluesky which are far more benign platforms.

Occasionally I make miniatures... Not models, miniature scenes. One of my first was this apothecary inspired by the #krakow apothecary museum
A suspiciously large candle flame reveals this to be a miniature model of a medieval apothecary. The books are all real, the tools too.. But the unicorn horn was made out of a beef bone from a pet shop.

New growth brings colour to the bottom of a reservoir. We have had rain in recent weeks, enough to encourage the fungi, but water levels, are still very low.

It's the start of the mushroom season! Autumn used to make me sad but fungi always cheer me up. I love their shapes and colours and variety.
At the edge of a path in a pine plantation, a shaggy ink cap mushroom starts to dissolve into black ink, it's delicate pinkish white scales curling and darkening at the edges

The weather has finally turned, bringing hope that we'll have rain at last. It's August and the trees are already turning yellow and losing their leaves. Tonight I saw my first snail in months and felt nothing but good will towards it.

It's so dry in the garden it's a battle to keep things alive but still seedlings are coming up. My friend made the mistake of calling hers, "Ash babies" and this little guy popped into my head
Under an ash seedling, an ash baby sits, it's gray skin flushed pink at its toes and cheeks. It's green eyes look at you with hurt surprise as you consider uprooting the baby tree from your flower bed.

My poppies bring all the bees to my yard... but only between 5 and 10am when the flowers drop. Fortunately the seed heads are also beautiful and the lemon seed cake in late summer will be glorious. #gardening #flowers #bumblebees

I have overlooked French marigolds my entire life but, walking In the veg garden as the sun went down, was struck by how they glow in the evening light. It reminded me that flowers bloom for the benefit of insects, not us. That we enjoy them is coincidental.

My poppies are bringing all the bees to my yard! The don't seem to have found this one yet though as its still covered in pollen. They drop their flowers by lunchtime so are a reminder to go into the garden first thing to enjoy their brief blooming. #flowers #englushgarden

Nothing is better in a newly cleared and dug garden than a mass of poppies and foxgloves. With little competition from the other plants that will take a few years to establish, these annuals go wild, putting on a display that will never be bettered as the garden matures. #englishgarden #flowers
An ornamental poppy flower begs to be stroked. It's delicate, feather edged petals send out come hither messages to the bees, while a froth of pollen laden stamens gather at its heart, waiting to bathe fuzzy backs.

Unfortunately Wales wouldn't be this beautiful without a lot of rain! #LlynGwynant is now the campsite against which I will judge all others, and find them wanting. It would have been perfect if it hadn't rained the whole time.

This is my new favourite rose. It's Emma Hamilton by David Austin and it has a rich, almost fruity scent as well as a beautiful structure and a colour that changes as the flower matures.

I can't believe just last week I was wearing a jumper and waterproofs and dodging hail on the Isle of Skye. Today it's 32 degrees and I'm wondering where I hid my summer clothes.

Gloriously scented, bluebells sweep up a small valley, shaded by beech trees. Beech trees are very good at suppressing growth of other plants around them, but don't seem to mind bluebells for some reason. Who can blame them? They always look great together.

The sky was grey and the beach, cliffs and sea were brown but there was still beauty and joy to be found at Hornsea on a blustery Sunday in early March. My excitement to be by the sea, hearing the waves and the gulls and looking for stones was only matched by the enthusiasm of the dogs out for walks

Gardening this week has been entirely about mud and manure so I'm taking a minute to remember a rose from the old house. It greeted us in October when we moved in 15 years ago and happily flowered from May to November, producing up to 50 blooms at a time. I wish I knew its name.
A swirl of petals at the heart of a pink red rose forms an almost abstract image.

It's a dull and soggy winter here in the UK so I'm in denial, looking ahead to the cherry blossom in March. I have a new garden and prowl it, looking for signs of life and evidence of what plants might be hiding under the soil. #springiscoming #greenshoots
