Drove most of the night to drop my (now ex-)partner (and my beloved jerk of an orange cat) to the airport. She'll be back for a few weeks in November, but fundamentally, as of now, I'm really, truly, de facto single and separated after close to 22 years. It's a little surreal, tbqh.

#writingq #WritingCommunity When I'm writing prose, it's past tense, usually with strong 1P narrator presence. I find present prose awkward and unnatural. One of the reasons I like comics is that it empowers present without the awkward narrative grammar—just extemporaneous dialogue

#AwesomeCharacters Rain has pain in their past. I wish I could say they have no pain coming in the future, but it would be disingenous. They almost certainly have some serious (and not canonically defined) suffering ahead of them. Their teens and early twenties are going to be a challenge. 😐

#SongsOfSeptember A lot of songs I associate with the book are jokes in the sense that there's a persistent disconnect between the songwriters' intentions (adults expressing romantic betrayal) and their resonance in my book (a 12 yo mad at her guitar teacher for pushing her too hard).
