I enjoy books, making things, cats, silliness, weird electronics, and vacuum tubes. I'm some flavor of queer, but I'm never quite sure exactly what.

Heh, before I read the text, I saw the green cape and thought "Wizard of Speed and Time"!

Now I'm tempted to make a T-shirt with that scrawled on it: "chicken????" and "only two" and let people wonder about it.

So car manufacturers should put a USB receptacle in the car that will let the dash unit play files from a thumb drive. You think this would be easy, but I've been astonished at how badly they approximate this simple task.

I added a dock for mine, also gives me an SD slot. Amazingly, just hanging it from a USB port works. Tempted to say "rate my setup", but I know it's jank.
Mac Mini in a wall mount holder, with cables and a USB dock hanging from it, with a USB-A cord plugged into it. The whole thing is crowded between two monitors, one on each side.

Since the power button and WiFi antenna are on the bottom, and it is indeed smöl, I designed and 3D printed a wall mount for my M4 Mini.
Mac Mini sitting in a purple plastic 3D printed holder with a semicircular scoop in front for airflow to the round grille, an opening for the power button, and keyhole cutouts for hanging.

Oh, I'll sometimes buy smart appliances (like televisions) where they're cost competitive and don't really have more to break down. I just don't let them have access to the internet. A smart fridge? Never. My brand new air fryer has a mechanical thermostat and timer (ding!).

Had a strange dream where I was working for Trump installing custom computer terminal network in airports. Bad enough, but things got weirder, at one point, I was in a meeting, trying to explain "you cannot telnet amino acids into a baby!"

I'd consider going without sedation for two reasons: the main one is I'm needle-phobic (the needle is WAY worse than the prep, as far as I'm concerned), the secondary one is I'm curious.

Yes, the memory map is different. 0000-00ff is "page zero", which can be accessed with special 2-byte instructions, the notion is that you put frequently used data there. 0100-01ff is the stack, used by the push, pull, jump subroutine, and return from subroutine instructions, and by interrupts.

Even if you have a house, sometimes you get tired on the highway and need some rest so you aren't driving too tired. But if you pull over into an actual rest area to, you know, rest, the cops will hassle you. Apparently they want people driving tired.

I always have to laugh when republicans try to scare people with "Sharia law".
Meme with title "Sharia law, anyone?", with the tag line "Are you concerned that Sharia Law, the law of Islam, is being legislated here in America?". Below that:

Here are some of the tenets of Sharia Law:
• Government based on religious doctrine
• Women have fewer rights than men
• Homosexuality is outlawed
• Rejecting science in favor of religious doctrine
• No separation between church and state
• Religion is taught in school
• Abortion is illegal

Curiously, these are the same beliefs as the Republican Party.

So if you want to enact Sharia Law in America, vote Republican

This reminds me of a scene in Eric Frank Russell's book "Wasp", where the alien tries to taunt the protagonist by pointing out that his (imaginary) "Eustace" is more moral than he is. But it doesn't really work because there's little shame in being judged as worse than something that isn't there.

When I first took a trigonometry class, they began with the unit circle, but didn't really cover what it was or why it was important. I flailed for a while until I realized its significance and went back to really understand it. Talking to a new student, this is still a problem.
Illustration of a unit circle with radius 1, centered on the labelled X and Y axes. It includes a counterclockwise arrow labeled Θ, pointing at the hypotenuse of a right triangle labeled with its length of 1, and its height labelled with "y=sinΘ" and its width labelled with "x=cosΘ", and the end of its hypotenuse along the circle marked "P(x, y)".

Gearing up to calibrate a somewhat exotic oscilloscope probe, I have most of the required equipment, but see a line for a "BNC male-to-GR adapter". That's a somewhat obscure one, but I can understand why they specified it. I guess it's time to take this one out of its original packaging.
Table titled "Rest Equipment Required for Long-Form Adjustment". Specifies a couple of choices of oscilloscope, a particular calibration generator and leveled sine wave generator, a "BNC Maile-GR Adapter", and a "BNC 50 Ω Termination", along with specifications and what they're used for.Plug in equipment bay (Tektronix TM506), with an array of modules plugged into it, a multimeter, leveled sine wave generator, power supply, current probe adapter, and calibration generator. On top of the equipment bay is an oscilloscope, displaying a trapezoidal waveform.Adapter in plastic bag with tag reading "TYPE 874-QBPA ADAPTOR TO TYPE BNC JACK", in red print on white, with "GENERAL RADIO COMPANY", "Since 1915", and "ELECTRONIC APPARATUS FOR SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY" in white print on red below.
