Lastly, Siri AI can now interact with features and data across my apps!

I also added support for Visual Intelligence, to enable use cases like scanning a physical album’s barcode to add it to MusicBox, follow the artist in MusicHarbor, or view its credits in MusicSmart.

One feature that’s been greatly improved is the AI Assistant, which lets you get a quick overview, dive into a detailed summary, or ask specific questions about a video. It’s now much faster, reliable, and available throughout the app from any video’s context menu.

It even works with long, super-complex descriptions like this one!

One of my favorites is the ability to create a Smart Search using natural language. Turning an idea into the right combination of filters can be tricky, but now you can simply describe what you’re looking for and let the app build the search for you.

My iOS, iPadOS, and macOS 27 updates are all live! 🎉 A big part of what made this year’s new features possible was access to Private Cloud Compute models. They allowed me to build things that weren’t possible before, and make some existing features faster. apps.apple.com/br/developer...

I also made a few tweaks to the artist profile page and some smaller UI elements: - The refresh progress now uses a circular indicator - Track previews now show an inline progress indicator as well

I think it fits much better with Liquid Glass than the old design did. Here’s how it looks on iPad and Mac.

I’m loving the new album page design in MusicHarbor 5.3.5!

And of course, it's all available on the Mac too, alongside a number of Mac-specific enhancements, including support for browsing your local music library, accessing MusicSmart from the share menu, and more.

Really excited about this MusicSmart update! Version 2.3.4 brings support for browsing high-resolution booklets, back covers, disc designs, inlays, and more across physical and digital album editions.

Last week I got to attend an Apple workshop on the latest technologies from WWDC26. Lots of ideas for new features and improvements!

010

Marcos Tanaka @mactanaka.bsky.social · 15/06/2026

Was thinking about dropping support for iOS 18 in my apps, but around 10% of first-time downloads still come from devices running iOS 18 or earlier. Guess I'll be supporting it a little longer.

I wonder whether toolbars will also receive the new navigation bar appearance to improve legibility. Right now they haven’t, and they’ve lost the edge effect, which actually makes them less legible. Probably a bug...

Can you share a sample link that is not working so I can take a look?

I’m adding it to my to-do list for future updates!

There are actually two types of singles: standalone releases (shown in the Singles section on Apple Music) and pre-release tracks from upcoming albums. MusicHarbor should show both in the Released section (just make sure singles are enabled for your feed).

Yes, there is! On the iPhone you can scroll down in the information section and tap the “Add Notes” button to add notes while watching.

Marcos Tanaka @mactanaka.bsky.social · 15/11/2025

If it’s shown on her artist page but not in the feed, then it’s usually a filter in Settings > Filter Releases that’s hiding it from the feed.

120

Marcos Tanaka @mactanaka.bsky.social · 15/11/2025

Play already supports that in Settings > General > Shake to Watch, or via the Quick Actions menu in Settings > Start Screen > View Quick Actions. You can also tap and hold playlists and smart search to reveal a “Play Random New” button.

I’ve also added the ability to setup Channels Inbox filters using multiple keywords. This lets us include or exclude topics based on the video title and description, either globally for all videos or individually by channel.

Search had been bugging me for a while too. I rewrote it to find items across the entire app, not just the currently selected list, and it’s now faster and more efficient than ever. The new architecture is also flexible enough to support advanced features in the future, like natural language search.

Taking some time before next week’s announcements to clean up a few things in Play: The video details view now has dedicated tabs for each section. It’s now easier to switch between attributes, chapters, transcript, recommendations, and actions.

I was having this issue where the Mail app showed an incorrect badge, but I hadn’t stop to look into it. It turns out there’s a new setting under Notifications → Mail → Customize Notifications to only counts unread messages marked as “Primary”

000

Marcos Tanaka @mactanaka.bsky.social · 16/05/2025

I haven’t checked “Shared With You” in a while, but I believe it only works with content shared from the app—so it would only apply if I set up a custom URL scheme for Play and users shared content through that scheme.

100

Marcos Tanaka @mactanaka.bsky.social · 16/05/2025

The main view doesn’t support drag and drop, but you can drop items into lists like "New" or any specific tag.

For the playback speed on macOS, the available options are the built-in speed control in the player itself, the Shift+< and Shift+> keyboard shortcuts, or the global setting found in Settings → Player.

Thanks! Play is only available via the App Store, so I don’t think it is possible to install it via Homebrew.

Some YouTube creators are so great, we never miss a new video. For those, Play will soon let you automatically add their new uploads to the watch later queue!
