No, humans did that. The AI was given eroneous info, and the recommendations it produced were predictably bad. The organization whose job it was the verify no civilians impacted were fired by Kegsbreath. The results and deaths are on his head, not the glorified calculator in this case that was used.

I think the problem is they are using off-the-shelf models. Not specifically training a model just on the menu and customer service procedures, because training is expensive. And the environment of a drive-thru is noisy, so expensive signal processing is required for clean voice extraction. GIGO 🤷‍♀️

AI is not a monolithic entity. There are thousands of AI models and platforms. The model McD's chose was poorly suited, or the hardware that provided the audio input was not up to the task. There were very likely compromises made to reduce cost vs a minimum wage employee.
