I wear a lot of wool. Not set fire to the kitchen for years now. Cats and hens can dispose of evidence: they are thorough but slow. Denizen of #Wulferhampton. In real world North West England. Mostly happy.

Daughter has interview for a placement with BAe. She has reservations. I have advised her to channel Arlo Guthrie. "I want to kill. I mean, I wanna kill. I wanna see blood & gore & guts & veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL." Sage paternal advice.

I know people complain about the range and number of recycling bins, but they do have secondary uses. And, no, neither the Audi nor the Range Rover are mine. The cat is, though.

Olive update. £29.95 spent on 4.4 kg of olives. I know we've been advised to have some provisions in, but I'm not sure that whichever minister it wss meant nearly 10 lbs of olives.

Good morning! Shower, breakfast & now sitting in lobby with yet another coffee. I may not know a lot about coffee, but I know all I need to about free coffee: drink it in quantity as it is free & spend the rest of the morning shaking like a shitting dog. Not sure this dog approves of my simile.

We made it back. Chuffing road closures on the way back. Still, we were in Yorkshire and the moon was just past full: we didn't want to take any chances so stayed on the road, like Brian Glover said. Hull Old Town is interesting. In a few months it will definitely have a Lovecraftian air about it.

I think the Rational Dress Society should re-form. Include men. Especially ones who want the return of cycling suits with Norfolk Jackets.
CYCLE DRESS FOR WOMEN
51 to 57.
Fashion presented a major obstacle to women in Britain who wished to cycle. Men had special cycling uniforms that did not show the dirt or restrict the movement of the limbs. Women were expected to wear their ordinary clothes and look elegant at the same time.
Women in France and America had quickly adopted a loose style of trousers for cycling. These were known as 'knickerbockers' in France and 'bloomers in America. They were comfortable to wear and did not impede movement of the legs.
In Britain, the Rational Dress Society was formed in 1881 to encourage women to wear more practical clothes for cycling and other pastimes. Its ideas on 'rational' dress were never popular with the majority of women, who believed that such outfits would attract even more scorn and ridicule.
Most women who cycled in the 1 890s wore conventional long skirts. Waists were tightly corsetted and the hem of the skirt was often weighted with lead shot to keep it in place. Instead of fashions being altered to suit the cycles, manufacturers had to make special ladies' machines with drop frames to accommodate the long skirts.

Found the mermaid. Am obscuring as some people may it a bit off putting. In a museum full of exhibits to with whaling, this is the oddest. I would also say that I live close to the sea, and this will disturb my dreams for quite a while.
Mermaid, Hull Maritime Musem.

A small announcement. Tomorrow, I go to Hull. The Maritime Museum has reopened. It has a preserved mermaid. The Street Life Museum is there. I have never been to Hull, and am possibly unreasonably over excited. Mrs Mac has ducked out, but daughter didn't have the option. Expect photographs.

I've been cleaning & burnished the kettle with Barkeepers Friend. 1. Daughter impressed, but thinks Mrs Mac won't notice as "she's far better at noticing dirty than clean." 2. My phone wants my password as I've temporarily lost my thumbprint. 3. These jobs were much more fun when I was stoned.

Good morning! I came down this morning and reached the conclusion that I may have a problem. Actually, two problems: I need better storage for my squashes and I could do with a cocktail cabinet.

1st day of a week off. So far have been to the tip, taken daughter pyjama hunting, done a Big Shop* & put a chilli in the slow cooker. Going for a run soon. I think I need to be sedateded. *Bourbon was an item on the shopping list. I didn't put it there. This cocktail thing is getting out of hand.

Tempted to try this, but, quite frankly, I'm scared. Recipe by Kingsey Amis, which should be enough to.put most of us off.
The Normandy 1 slug calvados (2 A. oz.) 1 dose champagne cider (about 3 fi. oz. 1 dash Angostura bitters 1 level teaspoon castor sugar
As little hot water as will dissolve the sugar completely
1 apple slice Ice cubes
Put glass add
the dissolved sugar, the bitters and the calvados and stir furiously. Add ice and stir furiously. Remove ice, add chilled cider, drop in apple slice, and serve.Note. Connoisseurs will already have sussed that this longish short drink is a translation of the orthodox champagne cock- tail, based on brandy and champagne, out of grape into apple They should also have sussed that it is substantially cheaper: calvados is a few shillings dearer than a three-star cognac, but champagne cider is a quarter the price of even the very cheapest champagne. This cocktail tends to go down rather faster than its strength warrants; I have had heads in the soup when offering it as an apéritif

Social class is a funny thing. I look & sound middle class. I effectively am. Dinner was a courgette, olive, sundried tomato & feta baked thing with cous cous. Yet once it had been eaten & I went to clear up, out came the slice of bread & I mopped up that fat like a starving 1953 Beano character.

Morning all. Shortly heading to the tip to get rid of a load of ivy, then a bit of food shopping. I've already changed the seal on the oven door. I'll probably see if a passing orca wants the old one. Honestly, if my life were any more exciting, Nigel Dempster would rise from the dead to cover it.

I have seen a mis-labelled photo. It refers to someone as "Baroness First Name XYZ", but she was the wife of a baronet so should be referred to as "Lady XYZ". I feel I ought to correct this, but I don't want to appear a git. I also feel that even knowing this marks me as a git. Morning, btw.

There was an 1990s UK ostrich boom. BSE was a driver. promoters sold breeding pairs for £14k as the "meat of the future." It became pyramid scheme, crashing when supermarkets banned the meat due to animal welfare. No abbatoirs licensed to handle 100kg, aggressive, 8-foot-tall birds safely. No shit.

Good Mo! I have a parcel due. It is currently in Lutterworth. Not knowing much about Lutterworth, I looked it up. It's in Leicestershire, and the 1973 sitcom Me, Myself and Nigel Wright was set in an ostrich farm near the town. I am now very intrigued.

Mrs Mac is nostalgic for the f*gg*ts of her Midlands childhood. She is trying to source venison liver. One site has informed her that "each deer only has one liver". Again nonplussed. Either education in the matter of livers is sadly lacking or people think there is some deer Prometheus around.

He lived at Whitley Hall until 1811 when he moved to Hindley Hall after rebuilding it. He sought advice from his sister during the rebuilding process but neglected to plan for staircases in the three storied building.

Went black berry and elderberry picking. About 2 weeks too late, but we got quite a bit. I do have a feeling that as I see really juicy ones just out of reach, it is a trick of the fairies to lure me onwards until I fall into their realm. God knows what they'd do with me.
