Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

Software developers think "if AI automates coding, I will be able to spend less time on producing widgets, and more time on strategy and architecture." Bosses think "if AI automates coding, I can get my devs to produce 100x more widgets."

I've spent a lot of years studying a lot of collapses, and the truth of the matter is that they're always mundane: mild climatic shifts that reduce crop yields, a dumbass in power who makes some terrible decisions, neglecting things that obviously matter but the will to fix them can't be summoned.

We're thinking of adding a new lint to package:lints - dart.dev/tools/linter.... The lint warns about omitted types that can't be inferred and default to dynamic. Try it out and provide feedback to github.com/dart-lang/sd.... Thanks! #dartlang #flutterdev

Baffling to see the disclosure around DeepSeek Last I checked the tech industry, we celebrate small teams pushing the industry forward, coming up w novel ways to build software more efficiently. And sharing it. Yet now there's a class of folks who think this is some bad thing?

A vibrant and retro-style illustration celebrating the theme "Singin' in the Public Domain." The image features a red umbrella, music notes, a film clapperboard, and scattered books. The Lockette, a yellow dancing padlock with an open lock, symbolizes unlocking creativity, surrounded by colorful streamers and confetti. The title text is bold and playful, with "Singin' in the" above "Public Domain," set on a background of musical staff lines.

I was able to do some important cookie research yesterday, thanks to two great @archive.org projects: the IA Lending Library and Bookreader Search. It all started when we went to my parents' house yesterday for Christmas dinner, and my mom pulled out this handwritten recipe for Shape Cookies:
A recipe for "Shape Cookies", written in orange marker by a child. The paper is old and deteriorating.
