I just read the most evocative and poetic description of gore in Lauren Lee Smith’s The Night Pool. It’s near the end of chapter 44. You should be reading this book. Smith is the next bright and shining voice in horror.

After several days of writer’s block, I have written 2,825 words on my book in the last two days, bringing the total word count up to over 71,000 words. I am crawling toward the end but the end is in sight. I'm anxious to begin revisions but I am determined to finish the first draft first.

Nosferatu is a beautiful and haunting film that, despite leaning heavily on well-established vampire ropes, feels like an original take on vampire myths. It’s not Robert Eggers’s best movie (that would be The Witch), but it’s still a master class in horror.
